Full Salary Range\: $42,084.31 - $60,577.41 

UNION POSITIONS\: The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations who meet the requirements below. The external salary range is used for candidates who are not NJ state employees who meet the requirements below.

Position Overview\: Under the direction of the Crew Supervisor for the HVAV Shop, the Repairer is responsible for performing basic repairs and maintenance on various HVAC building systems within campus facilities, including, but not limited to, preventative maintenance, filters, belts, hoses, etc and assisting HVAC Mechanics as necessary; assists tradespersons and/or performs work independently; does related work as required.
 
Responsibilities:

Required\: 

• High School Diploma; Minimum of one (1) year of experience in work involving the inspection, repair and general maintenance of HVAC systems, appliances, machinery, furnishings, and buildings; Possession of a valid driver’s license in good standing issued by the state of residence is required.

• Must have knowledge of the procedures, methods, equipment and supplies used in the maintenance of HVAC buildings and their systems, fixtures, appliances and fittings.

• Must possess excellent organizational, analytical, verbal and written communications skills.  Must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.  Must have the ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions and assignments.

• Must have the ability to analyze maintenance and repair problems and address them in an appropriate manner and/or to direct others to perform said repairs.
• Must have the ability to create and maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment/materials used, and time spent.

• Must have the ability to work from plans, specifications, sketches, and schematics.

• Must be able to walk distances in all weather conditions, navigate stairs, climb ladders, utilize scaffolding, platforms, or powered lifts, kneel, negotiate tight spaces, and work in high spaces.
• Must be capable of lifting tools, materials and equipment commensurate within the functions of this position (up to 50 pounds).
• Must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions, year round.
• Must be able to endure limited lighted situations with extreme temperatures (e. g. non air-conditioned buildings).
• Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
• Must work in buildings that may not have elevators to move materials in and out of the facility, and must rely on stairs to navigate through the building. 

Preferred\: 

• Broad-based knowledge of various trades and building systems through the successful completion of vocational training or apprenticeship program; Minimum of one (1) year of recent work experience involving building repairs in a large institutional setting (e. g. higher education, school district, hospital).
