HVAC SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Our client is a family-owned HVAC company that would rather run fewer calls than burn out its techs. You'll get a take-home truck, a strong base wage instead of commission-on-repair pressure, and an owner who works around your kids' games and family commitments. If you love field work and want to be paid well for being good at it, this is worth a conversation.

THE BASICS
Location: Waukesha, WI
Pay: $38–$60+/hr based on skill level. Residential-only techs earn high $30s to high $40s, residential plus light commercial earns the $50s, and advanced commercial earns $60+. On-call pay and sales spiffs are on top of that.
Service Area: Southeastern Wisconsin: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington Counties, plus parts of Jefferson County
Schedule: Typically 7:00–8:00 AM start to 3:00–3:30 PM finish, with some days shorter or longer depending on the season. Normal weeks run 40–50 hours, and up to 60 hours are available in busy season if you want them. You start from home and go straight to the job site. No weekend work outside of on-call.
On-Call: Rotating primary/backup schedule, roughly every 4–8 weeks. Backup is only called in a true emergency.
Reports To: Service Manager

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Perform maintenance and tune-ups on residential gas furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits
• Diagnose and repair residential equipment accurately and efficiently, without needing someone looking over your shoulder
• Service and troubleshoot hydronic boilers (high- and mid-efficiency)
• Work on light commercial rooftop units and zoning systems, depending on your experience
• Explain what's going on to homeowners clearly and honestly
• Return after-hours calls from the answering service, and help customers solve minor issues over the phone so they don't pay for an unnecessary visit. No-heat and no-cool calls always get a visit.
• Spot aging or failing equipment and pass replacement opportunities to the sales team. You're not expected to close.
• Lend a hand on installs when the schedule calls for it

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

• Ability to independently maintain, diagnose, and repair residential gas furnaces, central AC, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits
• EPA 608 certification
• Your own hand tools and gauges
• Clean driving record, and able to pass a pre-employment background check
• Strong, honest communication with homeowners
• Reliable and self-directed, and you actually enjoy field service work

Nice to Have (not required):

• Hydronic boiler experience, residential or commercial
• Light commercial service experience, including rooftop units
• Zoning systems experience (zone wiring, zone controls, zone boards)
• Commercial building controls experience
• Installation or sheet metal experience
