I&C Plant Operations Tech

Avant Energy is looking for a reliable, hands-on I&C Plant Operations Technician to support the electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems at our biogas facility. This role is primarily responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving the facility's electrical, instrumentation, and control systems while also supporting day-to-day plant operations as needed. The position typically spends one to two days each week supporting plant operations, with the remainder focused on electrical and I&C responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Electrical / I&C Work (Primary Focus)

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including 480 VAC motors, 480 VAC motor controls, VFDs, 24 VDC systems, and medium-voltage breakers


• Diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, sensors, and control systems


• Perform setup, programming, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation, including radar level transmitters, pressure transmitters, RTDs, and flowmeters


• Read and work from electrical prints and schematics


• Support system upgrades, improvements, and reliability efforts


• Perform preventative maintenance on electrical and control systems

Plant Operations

• Run and monitor plant systems to keep operations safe and efficient


• Check equipment, take readings, and make adjustments as needed


• Respond to alarms and troubleshoot operational issues


• Maintain clear and accurate logs of plant activity


• Work with the team to address performance or process concerns


• Obtain a Minnesota 2-C Boiler Operator License within two years of hire.

Maintenance Support 

• Assist with maintenance activities as needed to support plant reliability and safe operation.


• Assist with repairs, installs, and general upkeep of plant equipment


• Support preventative maintenance tasks


• Help keep the facility clean, safe, and organized

Qualifications

• Strong electrical troubleshooting experience in an industrial setting


• Experience with PLCs, AC and DC electrical systems


• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics


• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to support general maintenance


• Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks


• Safety-minded with good attention to detail


• Technical degree or certification (Electrical, I&C, or similar)


• Experience in manufacturing or industrial environment


• SCADA or DCS system experience


• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
