INCLEMENT WEATHER SHELTER COORDINATOR
REPORTS TO: DAY CENTER MANAGER
Salary: This is a full-time, regular non-exempt hourly role, compensated at $24.04 per hour.
SUMMARY
This position will be providing direct support to the daily operations of the IW Shelter.
The Inclement Weather Shelter Coordinator plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming environment for participants.
Responsibilities include assisting with shelter operations, supporting participants and staff, helping maintain a clean and organized facility, and completing basic documentation as required.
This position may also be involved in new program activities as the shelter grows and evolves.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position. Regular hours may include a mix of day and evening shifts, depending on operational needs. Evening and weekend hours may be required during Inclement Weather Shelter (IWS) activations. A consistent schedule will be provided in advance whenever possible, with flexibility expected during shelter season or emergency responses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
? Shelter Facility Operations
- Provide oversight for IW center staff, direct participant support, and collaborate with the Day Center Manager and volunteers.
- Assist with daily tasks, including meal preparation, cleaning, and participant personal hygiene support.
- Monitor shelter operations to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
- Maintain cleanliness of the building ensuring standards are met.
- Responsible for proper Shelter set up including set up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and sleeping mats and facility locked as required.
- Monitor and address any client concerns or disruptions, if necessary contact behavioral health for support.
? Documentation and Compliance
- Ensure that all records are entered in a timely manner, are accurate, and all participant interactions are documented appropriately.
- Ensure that The Father’s Heart policies, procedures and expected practices are implemented, maintained, and followed.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Successful candidate will be a service-oriented individual with high personal standards and a hands-on work style. This position requires an individual who is comfortable working at a varying pace, managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, adjusting priorities often, and managing frequent interruptions.
This position interacts with and provides service to internal employees and has high levels of contact with clients.. The IW Shelter Coordinator must be positive, approachable, empathetic, and work effectively with diverse personalities. In addition, the following is required unless otherwise noted:
? Successful work history to include 2 years of experience in mental health, social services or non-profit directly related to job responsibilities specified above, with progressively greater responsibility for making administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
? Experience in shelter work is a plus but not required.
? Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, and Excel) database management and with the ability to operate standard office equipment.
? Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
? Demonstrated ability to resolve problems and present results neatly, with clarity and precision in oral and written form.
? Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries.
? Knowledge of trauma-informed care, mental health, or crisis intervention is a plus.
? Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in potentially stressful situations.
? Maintain applicable valid licenses and certifications and meet continuing education requirements.
? Maintain a valid Driver’s License & have reliable transportation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
? Work is performed in a homeless shelter that is a fast paced, emotionally demanding setting that requires flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to handle stressful situations.
? This is a physically active position requiring the ability to stoop, bend and regularly lift up to 25lbs.
? This position requires weekends, holidays and overnight shifts supporting the Shelter during inclement weather events as needed.
? There may be occasions when extended shifts (10–12 hours) are required, depending on operational needs such as responding to participant emergencies or other unforeseen situations that require additional support outside of regular working hours.
? 20% - 30% travel may be required.
