Indirect Tax Analyst

What We’re Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking an Indirect Tax Analyst to join our Tax team. This position will support the preparation and filing of indirect tax returns, monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, business license renewals, and other tax-related activities.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with detailed financial information, and able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Recent graduates and upcoming fall graduates are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do:

• Partner with the Indirect Tax Supervisor to prepare and file sales and use, gross receipts, and similar tax returns.


• Review prior-month expenses in Microsoft Excel and Oracle to identify use tax obligations.


• Research state and local tax laws and regulations affecting the company’s indirect tax matters.


• Conduct tax research using state revenue and taxation websites and Bloomberg Tax.


• Prepare monthly tax journal entries in Microsoft Excel.


• Complete monthly indirect tax account reconciliations using FloQast.


• Prepare quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations.


• Prepare and file personal property tax returns.


• Prepare and file business license applications and renewals.


• Prepare and file Puerto Rico withholding tax returns.


• Manage the indirect tax calendar to ensure timely filing of returns, payments, licenses, and renewals.


• Maintain electronic records of income and indirect tax filings.


• Coordinate with internal departments to gather information for tax returns and business license filings.


• Provide indirect tax guidance and support to other departments as needed.


• Communicate with external taxing authorities to obtain or provide required information.


• Coordinate responses to indirect tax notices.


• Support additional Tax team projects, including quarterly and year-end income tax provision and compliance workpapers.

What You Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.


• Zero to two years of professional experience.


• Recent graduates and upcoming spring graduates are encouraged to apply.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including:

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of tasks and competing deadlines.


• Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to communicate professionally with taxing jurisdictions and Michael Baker employees outside of the Tax department.


• Experience with Oracle, FloQast, or Bloomberg Tax is helpful.

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $50,000 to $55,000. This compensation range is a good-faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
