Job Description - In-Room Dining Server

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities 


Guest Service & In-Room Dining Experience 



  • Deliver food and beverage orders to guest rooms with professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail, ensuring a luxury-level guest experience. 



  • Present meals according to hotel standards, including proper room setup, table presentation, and explanation of menu items when appropriate. 



  • Anticipate guest needs by responding promptly to special requests, dietary accommodations, and service preferences. 



  • Provide genuine, personalized hospitality during every guest interaction, creating memorable in-room dining experiences. 



  • Handle guest concerns or service recovery situations professionally, escalating issues to management when appropriate. 



  • Maintain complete knowledge of menus, daily specials, wine selections, and hotel amenities to confidently answer guest questions. 


Order Preparation & Service Execution 



  • Review orders for accuracy prior to delivery, ensuring all food, beverages, condiments, and accompaniments are included. 



  • Coordinate closely with the culinary team to ensure orders are delivered promptly and meet quality standards. 



  • Maintain proper food temperatures and presentation throughout transport and delivery. 



  • Set up and clear in-room dining service efficiently while respecting guest privacy and maintaining discretion. 



  • Retrieve trays, tables, and service equipment from guest rooms promptly to maintain cleanliness throughout the hotel. 


Operational Excellence 



  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of in-room dining stations, service pantries, storage areas, and service equipment. 



  • Ensure all service carts, trays, china, glassware, flatware, and linens are clean, polished, and presentation-ready. 



  • Accurately process guest orders and payments using the hotel's point-of-sale (POS) system. 



  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen, front office, housekeeping, and other departments to ensure seamless guest service. 



  • Assist with restaurant, lounge, banquet, or pool service operations as business levels require. 


Inventory & Equipment Management 



  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of service supplies, beverages, condiments, linens, and guest amenities within service stations. 



  • Report inventory shortages, damaged equipment, or maintenance needs to management promptly. 



  • Ensure all in-room dining equipment is clean, sanitized, and functioning properly before each shift. 



  • Assist with stocking and replenishing service areas throughout the day. 


Health, Safety & Compliance 



  • Follow all local, state, and company food safety and sanitation standards. 



  • Maintain proper food handling procedures during transport and delivery. 



  • Adhere to hotel grooming, uniform, and appearance standards at all times. 



  • Operate service carts and equipment safely while maintaining clean and organized work areas. 



  • Participate in all required safety, sanitation, and service training programs. 


 


Education and/or Experience 



  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 



  • Previous experience in luxury hotels, upscale restaurants, fine dining, or food and beverage service preferred. 



  • Experience providing personalized guest service in a hospitality environment preferred. 



  • Basic knowledge of food, wine, and beverage service standards. 



  • Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems preferred. 


 


Skills/Specialized Knowledge 



  • Exceptional guest service skills with a genuine passion for hospitality. 



  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 



  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to consistently deliver luxury service standards. 



  • Ability to remain organized and composed while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 



  • Professional, polished demeanor with strong problem-solving abilities. 



  • Ability to work collaboratively with culinary, front office, housekeeping, and food & beverage teams. 



  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper service etiquette. 


 


Physical Demands 



  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. 



  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, including service trays, carts, and supplies. 



  • Ability to push and maneuver fully loaded in-room dining carts safely throughout the hotel. 



  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday. 



  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts based on operational needs.
