DescriptionThe Department of Criminal Justice at Austin Peay State University invites applications for an on-ground instructor position starting July 30, 2027. This instructor position entails approximately nine months of full-time service and is a three-year, renewable position.
The Department of Criminal Justice currently offers bachelor's and master of science degrees in criminal justice, each with an optional concentration in homeland security. Additionally, the department houses a bachelor’s degree in national security studies. The program enrolls about 400 undergraduate majors per year and has approximately 60 in our graduate cohorts. The Department of Criminal Justice offers its courses through diverse delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in all modalities.
The Department of Criminal Justice is among the University’s fastest growing. The position’s responsibilities include teaching courses as assigned by the chair. Courses may require teaching at the Fort Campbell Center. Additionally, the successful candidate will advise students and participate in relevant service to the university, community, and discipline.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
• Teach four to five courses (graduate and undergraduate level) per academic semester as assigned by the chair
• Advise majors as needed
• Provide service, including, but not limited to, departmental, college, and/or university committee work
• Faculty may teach during the summer semesters for additional compensation (subject to performance and availability)
Required Qualifications:
• One of the following: Ph.D. in criminal justice or criminology, a J.D., a Master’s degree in law/legal studies, or a Master’s degree in criminal justice with significant experience in courts/law.
• A background search will be required of the successful applicant. Desired Qualifications
• An ability to teach a wide range of law-focused criminal justice courses • Experience teaching across a variety of delivery methods (online, hybrid, face-to-face, etc.)
