Job Description - Instrument & Control Technician

Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The I&C Technician performs work under established procedures and manufacturer guidelines, supporting both routine and complex tasks involving DCS, PLCs, and field instrumentation under the direction of the Maintenance Manager or designee.

The role requires strong analytical skills to diagnose malfunctions, implement corrective actions, and support plant operations during normal and emergency conditions. Work must be performed safely, in full compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, with effective communication to Operations, Maintenance, and Plant Management regarding system performance and equipment status.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain a safe and compliant work environment. Works safely and wears appropriate PPE.
  • Comply with all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Inspect, test, calibrate, and maintain plant instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level devices, and perform preventive and predictive maintenance such as calibration, tuning, and inspections.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair control systems including DCS, PLCs, transmitters, analyzers, control valves, and associated components; perform loop checks, functional testing, and system diagnostics.
  • Maintain and modify control logic, graphics, and alarm configurations in accordance with approved management of change procedures.
  • Support plant startups, shutdowns, and load changes by ensuring proper operation and reliability of control systems.
  • Utilize Maximo to create and complete work orders, document maintenance activities, and report safety and equipment deficiencies.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to support troubleshooting and system improvements.
  • Work closely with Operations to resolve control issues impacting plant performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, testing, and upgrades of instrumentation and control systems, and support contractors during outages and capital projects.
  • Assist in maintaining cybersecurity and integrity of control systems hardware and software. Supports vendor coordination
  • Ensure compliance with the Environmental Compliance Program and report any known or suspected violations; maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor, whether specifically stated in this description. 

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Experience in a cogeneration or combined cycle power plant environment.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to safely troubleshoot and diagnose equipment.
  • Ability to work well in team environment.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline.

Pay Rate: $67.80 per hour
