Job Summary
Obtains and verifies information with patients and coordinates daily scheduling of patients, primarily at the main campus locations.
Essential Functions
- Reviews the referrals for completeness of information necessary to process referral as per policy and procedure set by Management.
- Contacts physician offices to obtain additional information on patient, if necessary.
- Responsible for contacting patients to obtain demographic and insurance information.
- Responsible for verifying insurance coverage via eligibility computer system to determine available benefits.
- Responsible for contacting via telephone insurance carriers or electronic eligibility to obtain necessary insurance benefits information.
- Responsible for pre-authorization/pre-admission requirements of insurance carriers prior to the start of care.
- Responsible for clerical support as the need arises.
- Performs any other duty at the request of Management.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate with pediatric, adolescent, young adult and geriatric patients and visitors.
- Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas.
- Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations.
- Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital’s policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID.
- Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke.
- Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline.
- Personally adheres to Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy by demonstrating compassion, accountability, respect and exceeding expectations through service excellence.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Previous experience in a medical office environment Preferred
- Heavy telephone contact with physicians, clinical staff and patients.
- Must be able to communicate with diplomacy and tact at all times.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
- Flexible and able to easily adapt to a variety of situations.
- Strong proficiency in computer usage, and well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
