Investigative Producer

KOAT, the ABC & CBS affiliates in Albuquerque, NM has an opening for an Investigative Producer who can dig deeper, break stories, work on special projects, and present heavily researched investigative pieces for both on-air and online.

You are a driven researcher and experienced journalist. You have a creative vision and have experience making decisions and communicating the plan. You know how to lead a team, win the big story, and dig deeper on breaking news. You must be highly organized and a self-starter who is adept at working ahead and meeting deadlines. You must be fast and able to play well in a room of same-minded pros. Accuracy is job one! You will report to the News Director.

Responsibilities

• Produce multiple investigative pieces per week
• Must be able to work ahead and meet demanding deadlines
• Must be a skilled researcher who knows how to dig deep, find stories, and break news
• Must have a strong knowledge of the court systems and their procedures
• Must have a strong knowledge of local news, laws, and politics
• Reveal, uncover, and expose hard news investigative pieces 
• Copy edit with an acute eye for details, balance, ethics, and the law
• Post stories to KOAT.com and upload content to KOAT social media
• Produce special projects throughout the year as assigned
• Select, research, and write content for live newscasts as needed to make the newscast an "experience" for viewers
• Work with and guide investigative reporter in story production
• Coordinate creative vision with news management 

Requirements

• Professional writing and journalism experience
• Experience working in a newsroom
• Ability to coordinate scheduling and set up shoots both independently and in coordination with news management 
• Have writing and copy-editing skills
• Coordinate multiple shoots and work on several investigative stories at once
• Experience summarizing information into easy-to-understand components
• Creative presentation style, and ability to showcase all resources and elements
• Have and exhibit the highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards
• Must be flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news
• Related military experience will be considered
• In-person attendance is required
