Description
As an Investigator for the Lucas County Coroner's Office, you will play a crucial role in investigating deaths and supporting the Coroner's team. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct thorough investigations, ensuring all relevant information is gathered and documented. You will interact with a diverse range of individuals, including medical professionals, law enforcement, and families of the deceased, maintaining discretion and confidentiality at all times. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate deaths under the Coroner's jurisdiction, following established protocols.
  • Interact with medical personnel, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to gather information.
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports, ensuring grammatical correctness.
  • Skillfully interview suspects, victims, and witnesses, maintaining impartiality.
  • Facilitate next-of-kin notifications and assist with the identification process.
  • Handle death reports, scene investigations, and coordinate with transport services.
  • Document and file paperwork related to SIDS deaths and other cases.
  • Execute writs and subpoenas for medical records and samples.
  • Represent the Coroner's Office on review boards and committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Coroner or Deputy Coroners.


Qualifications
  • Two or more years of college with a focus on forensic sciences, police studies, or health-related fields.
  • Death investigation experience is highly preferred.
  • Preferably, a minimum of 5 years of investigative experience, with a focus on homicides and suicides.
  • RN or BSN with trauma or ER work experience is an asset.
  • Must obtain ABDMI certification within 2 years of employment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Proficiency in data entry, report typing, and basic computer skills (MS Office or equivalent).
  • Valid driver's license and knowledge of Lucas County geography.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
