Position Summary


The Counselor plays a critical role in the delivery of clinical services at NOLA Detox and Recovery Center. Reporting directly to the Clinical Director, the Counselor is responsible for providing therapeutic services, coordinating care, and supporting patients throughout their recovery journey. This position works collaboratively with nursing, medical, case management, and administrative staff to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered treatment and coordinate heavily with all other stakeholders in the patients' recovery program.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Clinical Services



  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments upon admission.

  • Develop individualized, measurable treatment plans in collaboration with patients and the treatment team.

  • Facilitate evidence-based individual and group counseling sessions.

  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support as needed.

  • Conduct family sessions and maintain professional communication with family members when appropriate and authorized.


Case Management & Discharge Planning



  • Coordinate patient care with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement discharge plans, including referrals to appropriate levels of care.

  • Maintain contact with community providers to ensure continuity of care.


Documentation & Compliance



  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation, including:


    • Assessment summaries

    • Treatment plans and updates

    • Individual session notes

    • Group notes

    • Case management/contact notes

    • Discharge summaries


  • Audit charts regularly to ensure regulatory, accreditation, and company compliance.

  • Adhere to all HIPAA, confidentiality, and ethical standards.


Collaboration & Team Participation



  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case reviews.

  • Provide professional input regarding patient progress and treatment recommendations.

  • Maintain consistent communication with the Clinical Director and leadership team.


Policy & Program Implementation



  • Learn, review, and consistently implement company policies and procedures.

  • Uphold and model the "NOLA Detox" philosophy of addiction treatment.

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)



  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related behavioral health field

  • Active licensure or licensure eligibility (LPC, LCSW, PLPC, LMSW, etc.) as required by state regulations

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions

  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities for addiction

  • Familiarity with EMR systems and clinical documentation standards

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the facility

  • Extended periods of computer use and documentation

  • Ability to observe patients closely (near and distance vision)

  • Occasional driving as required for patient-related activities

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions


Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
