Job Description:
Seniority
3 - 6 years of experience 3–6 years of hands-on U.S. patent prosecution experience with high-volume filing (10–15 filings/day equivalent). Candidates with 2 years considered at Level I comp; 7+ years considered if salary expectations are realistic.
Work experience
Active U.S. patent prosecution experience — currently working in IP, not lapsed 5+ years ago into another practice area.
High-volume filing background — experience at a firm or in-house team with comparable throughput (8–15 filings/day). Low-volume candidates with 3–4 years often map to ~1.5 years of Wolf Greenfield-equivalent experience.
Law firm IP prosecution background preferred — in-house candidates considered but should expect Level I comp and a training ramp.
Direct client-facing experience — prior experience communicating directly with clients (not solely through attorneys) is a strong plus for this seat, which interfaces directly with one large client.
Education
Bachelor's degree — preferred but not required.
Hard skills
Hands-on USPTO filing proficiency — must have independently prepared and filed office action responses, IDS submissions, issue fee payments, RCEs, PCT national stage entries, continuations, and divisionals.
IP docketing/practice management software — proficiency with at least one major IP docketing platform (e.g., Foundation IP, Anaqua, CPI, Dockmaster).
Microsoft Office proficiency — Outlook, Word, and Excel required for day-to-day document preparation and correspondence.
Soft skills
Attention to detail — resume errors are a red flag; this role involves high-stakes legal filings where accuracy is non-negotiable.
High-volume composure — ability to reprioritize and remain accurate under deadline pressure at 10–15 filings/day pace.
Client service orientation — strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable as the primary point of contact for a large external client.
Self-starter — proactively seeks answers before escalating; does not require hand-holding in a fast-paced environment.
Miscellaneous
U.S. work authorization, no sponsorship — firm does not sponsor visas; role is subject to export control regulations.
Eligible state residency — must reside in: ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, NJ, MD, DE, VA, NC, MN, or IL. Pennsylvania is not eligible.
Salary expectations aligned to band — $91K–$101.3K (Level II). Candidates with lower-volume backgrounds should expect mid-band, not top of band.
