The IT Specialist — Systems Administration is responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, security, and troubleshooting of the organization's IT systems and infrastructure. This position ensures that servers, operating systems, applications, user accounts, and related technologies remain secure, reliable, available, and properly maintained.
The IT Specialist works closely with network administrators, cybersecurity teams, help desk personnel, application teams, vendors, and business users to maintain stable IT operations and support technology initiatives.
Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, operating systems, and enterprise IT infrastructure.
Administer Windows and Linux server environments.
Manage and maintain physical, virtual, and cloud-based systems.
Monitor system availability, performance, capacity, and resource utilization.
Troubleshoot server, operating system, application, and infrastructure-related issues.
Manage user accounts, groups, permissions, and access controls using Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID.
Administer Group Policy, organizational units, authentication, and access management.
Install and maintain operating system updates, security patches, drivers, and software.
Monitor system logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify potential issues.
Manage and maintain virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies.
Support cloud infrastructure and services in platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
Maintain system backups and assist with disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
Test backup and recovery processes and document recovery procedures.
Assist with server migrations, upgrades, system implementations, and infrastructure projects.
Configure and maintain enterprise applications and system services as assigned.
Monitor system capacity and recommend infrastructure improvements when required.
Maintain accurate system documentation, configuration records, asset inventories, and operating procedures.
Implement and maintain system security controls in coordination with cybersecurity teams.
Investigate system security alerts and assist with remediation of vulnerabilities.
Support endpoint management, software deployment, and device configuration when required.
Manage system certificates, service accounts, scheduled tasks, and system integrations.
Participate in IT incident, problem, and change management processes.
Document incidents, troubleshooting activities, system changes, and resolutions.
Provide technical support and escalation assistance to help desk and desktop support teams.
Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve infrastructure and system issues.
Develop and maintain scripts or automation tools to improve system administration efficiency.
Ensure systems comply with organizational IT policies, security standards, and applicable requirements.
Associate or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
2–5 years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or a related IT role.
Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and authentication services.
Experience with server administration, virtualization, and system monitoring.
Knowledge of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.
Experience with backup, recovery, patch management, and system maintenance.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with IT service management and ticketing systems.
Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate or related certifications.
CompTIA Server+, Network+, or Security+ certifications.
VMware VCP or other virtualization certification.
Linux certifications such as Linux+ or RHCSA.
Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripting.
Experience with Microsoft Intune, MECM/SCCM, or other endpoint management platforms.
Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Datadog, or similar platforms.
Knowledge of cybersecurity, vulnerability management, and endpoint security.
ITIL Foundation certification.
Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools.
