Janitorial/Housekeeper
Gabbs, Nevada
Summary:
The Janitorial / Housekeeper is a full-time position, responsible for maintaining clean, sanitary, orderly, and presentable facilities throughout the mine site, including the main office, outer mine areas, break rooms, restrooms, common areas, and company housing units. This position performs routine janitorial and housekeeping duties, including cleaning, disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, window cleaning, and general upkeep, deep cleaning, and cleaning bedding in guest houses.
The Janitorial / Housekeeper is expected to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation, use cleaning products and equipment safely and properly, and respond to housekeeping needs throughout the site, main office and company housing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Main Office and Administrative Areas
- Clean and maintain offices, hallways, conference rooms, entryways, and other administrative areas.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, and otherwise maintain floors – Detailed floor cleaning “quarterly” – to include corners, and mopboards.
- Dust and clean desks, tables, furniture, ledges, fixtures, baseboards and other surfaces as appropriate.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, countertops, and common-use areas.
- Clean interior windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces. Walls should be cleaned “quarterly”.
- Maintain clean and orderly break rooms, kitchens, and common areas.
- Replenish restroom and office supplies as needed.
- Water plants weekly.
- Report on maintenance, plumbing, electrical, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
Restrooms and Sanitation
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain all site restrooms on a regular schedule.
- Clean toilets, urinals, sinks, countertops, mirrors, floors, partitions, and other restroom surfaces, paying close attention to handles, doorknobs, sink fixtures and areas contacted daily by employees.
- Replenish toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other restroom supplies.
- Empty restroom trash containers.
- Maintain restroom areas in a clean, sanitary, and odor-free condition.
- Promptly report leaks, plumbing problems, damaged fixtures, or other facility concerns.
Mine Site / Outer Areas
- Clean and maintain designated areas throughout the mine site and outer mine facilities.
- Clean break rooms and appliances, lunch areas, employee common areas, and other designated facilities.
- Sweep and mop floors and remove dirt, dust, debris, and trash.
- Empty trash receptacles and maintain designated waste areas.
- Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, equipment surfaces, and other appropriate areas.
- Maintain cleanliness around entrances, walkways, and other assigned areas.
- Perform periodic deep cleaning as needed.
- Follow site requirements for working safely around active mine operations, equipment, vehicles, and employees.
Company Housing
- Perform scheduled weekly housekeeping services for designated company housing units.
- Clean kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, hallways, and other areas of company housing.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, and sanitize surfaces throughout housing unit.
- Detailed floor cleaning “quarterly” – to include corners, and mopboards to remove build-up dirt.
- Clean appliances, countertops, sinks, cabinets, fixtures, and other appropriate areas.
- Change and wash bed linens and towels as required.
- Make beds and replace clean linens.
- Remove trash and maintain housing units in clean and orderly condition.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces as needed.
- Report damage, maintenance issues, plumbing problems, or other concerns identified in company housing.
- Perform additional cleaning or preparation of housing units as needed for employee occupancy, turnover, or company visitors.
General Housekeeping Duties
- Perform routine and deep-cleaning duties as assigned.
- Clean windows, doors, walls, baseboards, vents, fixtures, and other surfaces as appropriate.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain various types of flooring.
- Detailed floor cleaning “quarterly” – to include corners, and mopboards to remove build-up dirt.
- Dust and polish furniture and appropriate surfaces.
- Clean and sanitize kitchens, refrigerators, microwaves, sinks, and other common-use areas as assigned.
- Remove trash and debris from assigned areas.
- Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning products, paper products, and other janitorial materials and notify the appropriate person when supplies need to be reordered.
- Properly operate and maintain vacuum cleaners, floor equipment, cleaning tools, and other janitorial equipment.
- Safely use, store, label, and handle cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer instructions and site requirements.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in an organized and sanitary manner.
- Follow established cleaning schedules and priorities.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working in offices, employee areas, and company housing.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous janitorial, housekeeping, custodial, hotel, industrial cleaning, or similar experience preferred.
- Ability to perform cleaning and housekeeping duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established cleaning schedules.
- Ability to safely use common cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Dependable, responsible, and punctual.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize assigned duties, with little or no supervision.
- Ability to maintain professional and respectful interactions with employees, visitors, contractors, and company personnel with minimal disruption to all employees’ work responsibilities and daily operations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working in employee offices and company housing.
- All work must be done in a productive efficient manner without interrupting the staff – Keep on task. Follow all company safety rules, policies, procedures, and site requirements.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing assigned duties.
- Follow proper procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Maintain awareness of mobile equipment, vehicles, personnel, and other hazards when working in active mine-site areas.
- Report unsafe conditions, spills, damaged equipment, or other hazards promptly.
- Maintain work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training, and inspections.
- Stop and report work when an unsafe condition exists.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Work is performed throughout an active mine-site environment, including office buildings, restrooms, break rooms, outer mine facilities, and company housing.
- May be required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and work for extended periods.
- May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull cleaning supplies, equipment, trash containers, linens, and other materials.
- Work may involve exposure to dust, dirt, cleaning chemicals, varying temperatures, noise, and other conditions associated with a mining operation.
- May occasionally work around operating equipment, vehicles, industrial areas, and other mine-site hazards.
- MSHA certification, appropriate PPE and safety procedures must be always followed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management in support of the mine site's operational, housekeeping, facility, and employee needs.
