Job Captain | Multi-Family

Job Description - Job Captain | Multi-Family

Overview

A nationally recognized San Jose architecture firm with a global presence is seeking a Job Captain with multi-family project experience. The firm's diverse portfolio spans high-rise residential, mixed-use, commercial, higher education, and civic work across offices in Southern California, the Bay Area, Texas, the East Coast, and Shanghai. If you're looking to join a collaborative studio culture in the heart of San Jose that is actively growing, this is a great opportunity!

Overall Responsibilities:

We're looking for a skilled and driven Job Captain to take ownership of project delivery on mid-size projects and complex project components. In this role, you'll lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and serve as the technical backbone that keeps projects moving from schematic design through construction documents and beyond.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the full project lifecycle — feasibility studies, schematic design, construction documents, and project manuals — across medium-scale and multi-package projects

  • Coordinate a multidisciplinary team of architects, designers, and consultants through design development and CD phases

  • Delegate work, provide mentorship to junior staff, and manage consultant relationships to keep deliverables on track

  • Develop programming and site planning documents while ensuring design intent is maintained throughout all phases

  • Assist in specification writing and conduct on-site construction observation across a variety of building types

  • Attend internal coordination meetings and regularly brief the Principal-in-Charge and Project Manager on project status, risks, and milestones

  • Represent the firm through active participation in external professional organizations and industry events

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in technical and design production

  • Experience in multi-family residential required

  • Strong command of construction documentation, field observation, building materials, and construction techniques

  • Familiarity with construction administration, governmental agencies, zoning codes, and engineering discipline coordination

  • Excellent communication, time management, and client-facing skills

  • Understanding of sustainable design practices and current industry standards

  • Proficiency in: Revit (2016+), AutoCAD (2016+), SketchUp or Rhino3D Studio Max, Maxwell Render, Twinmotion, or Enscape, and Microsoft Office

  • Professional degree in Architecture (graduate degree preferred); equivalent experience considered

  • LEED AP designation preferred; active membership in a professional organization is a plus

Please Note: Delays may be experienced if uploading portfolio pdf. Do not exit out of page during upload. We look forward to receiving your application!
