Description

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Junior Estimator is responsible for assisting the Estimator in providing estimates/budgets outlined in a Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) format during the preconstruction processes to help establish overall project budgets for the appropriate approval(s). 

Location: Durant

Schedule: Regular/Full-Time - 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday

Wage access is an option for this position.

 

Primary Tasks:

  1. Assist the Estimator in providing calculated and researched cost estimates/budgets for each phase of the preconstruction processes on each project, including conceptual, schematic, and final budgets/estimates with detailed trade specific costs.

  2. Review architect / engineer provided drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports; and assist in performing detailed quantity “take-offs” to incorporate quantities into the estimate(s). 

  3. Assist in managing and maintaining the Estimating Software(s) and keeping the database of costs up to date with current industry market trends. Assist in recognizing opportunities to value engineer design, identify document conflicts, and determine the best strategy(s) for cost savings/avoidance.

  4. Draft Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) and assist in the selection process for design consultants, contractors, subcontractors and specialty consultants. 

  5. Assist in the review of contractor and subcontractor submitted cost estimates, GMP proposals and subcontractor award selections.

  6. Provide support in the bidding processes; including drafting trade packages and scopes of work for appropriate contracting trades and solicit bids/proposals from contractors.

  7. Create and maintain professional relationships with contractors, subcontractors, design consultants and suppliers to ensure an adequate quantity of proposals are received during the bidding/procurement procedures.

  8. Attend site visits and pre-proposal meetings and provide minutes from the meeting(s). Attend preconstruction coordination meetings between all parties during the design progression stages.

  9. Establish, coordinate, and maintain an open line of communication within the Preconstruction Department.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education Experience: 

  • Associate’s degree or High School diploma/GED and 2 years of experience in lieu of education 
  • Ability to use and understand estimating software (i.e.: Timberline/Sage, Buildertrend, On Center On-Screen Takeoff, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and other computer-related office skills 
  • Basic understanding of drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work independently and within a project team
  • Good understanding of mathematical comprehension 
  • Three (3) years of construction experience with an emphasis on preconstruction and interpreting construction documents
