BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE:

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING:

All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. Training Academy hours are Monday through Thursday, 7\:00 am to 5\:00 pm.

DYS is seeking a Juvenile Parole Specialist Supervisor which will supervise a unit of Juvenile Parole Officers (JPO) assigned to Ohio's 43 Northern counties.  

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Supervise unit of JPOs and Sr. JPOs, provide ongoing job related training, approve/disapprove leave requests, recommend candidates for hire, provide annual performance evaluations.
• Represent Department of Youth Services on Board of Community Corrections Facilities and Family & Children First Councils and provide program management of regional contracting process and re-entry programming.
• Monitors and develops JPO and Sr. JPO interpersonal skills with youth, family, courts, service providers.
• Monitors home visits and compliance with IV-E placement contact standards.
• Supervise social, medical and or mental health programs provided for the youth and coordinated by the JPO.
• Develop and provide guidance to JPOs and Sr. JPOs regarding detailed and accurate report writing and case note input.
• Serve as an active member of treatment and/or intervention teams.
• Attend organized professional meetings on behalf of DYS.

Undergraduate core coursework in criminal justice, criminology, social work, sociology or related field; 48 mos. trg. or 48 mos. exp. in community corrections to include probation or parole case management, report writing, offender treatment & program delivery & participation in correction/criminal justice agencies.

-Or graduate core coursework in criminal justice, criminology, social work, sociology or related field; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in community corrections to include probation or parole case management, report writing, offender treatment & program delivery & participation in correction/criminal justice agencies operations.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
