Job Description - KAP 2026-2027 - Government Relations Coordinator - Institute for the American Worker

The Koch Associate Program (KAP) is a career accelerator for early to mid-career professionals with a drive to tackle our country’s most pressing challenges in more effective, principled ways. KAP equips associates with the tools, mindsets, and community to succeed as social entrepreneurs—individuals excited to find new and better ways to break barriers and eliminate injustice. Associates spend one day each week engaging in experiential learning with Stand Together Fellowships and work at one of our many partner organizations the rest of the week. Our curriculum is designed to supercharge your development and equip you for long-term success as you seek to have an impact on the problems that prevent people from realizing their potential.

The Government Relations Coordinator supports the Institute for the American Worker’s government relations and policy engagement efforts by managing scheduling, event operations, and logistics for the organization’s advocacy activities in Washington, D.C. This role is responsible for coordinating meetings with congressional offices, federal agencies, coalition partners, and policy stakeholders; supporting internal operations; and ensuring the seamless execution of I4AW’s Capitol Hill briefings, policy events, and outreach efforts.


This role is ideal for an organized, proactive professional seeking to launch a career in government relations, coalition outreach, or event planning.


Key Responsibilities


Government Relations Scheduling & Logistics



  • Schedule meetings for Government Relations team with Members of Congress, congressional staff, executive branch officials, coalition partners, and external stakeholders

  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, briefing packets, and follow-up materials

  • Maintain detailed records of meetings, outreach, and stakeholder engagement

  • Draft follow-up communications and thank yous after meetings


Advocacy Operations & Department Support



  • Maintain and update legislative trackers, stakeholder databases, and congressional contact lists

  • Track congressional hearings, labor policy developments, committee activity, and relevant legislative calendars

  • Assist in drafting internal government relations reports and activity summaries


Event & Briefing Coordination



  • Support planning and execution of Capitol Hill briefings, Fellowship Fly-in, coalition meetings, roundtables, and policy events

  • Coordinate venue logistics, invitations, RSVPs, catering, materials, and on-site support

  • Assist with preparation of presentation materials and policy collateral for events

  • Assist with speaker coordination for I4AW’s Fellowship program


Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Coordinate with communications and policy teams to align messaging around advocacy priorities

  • Support organizational outreach tied to reports, policy releases, and regulatory/legislative initiatives

  • Assist with administrative and logistical support for Future of Work Fellows, policy experts, and external speakers participating in I4AW events


Qualifications


Required



  • 1-4 years of professional experience (internships on Capitol Hill, in advocacy, policy, or nonprofit settings strongly preferred)

  • Exceptional organizational and project-management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and calendar management tools


Preferred



  • Familiarity with congressional procedures and legislative process

  • Prior experience scheduling for senior leaders or coordinating stakeholder meetings

  • Interest in labor policy, workforce policy, or free-market public policy advocacy
