Job Purpose:

Heat and serve meals to children participating in Kids Cafe free meal program. Exhibit a friendly and welcoming manner with children.

Call in or email changed to meal orders as needed to provide one meal per child; determine adequate but not excessive level of meals to hold in inventory, and adjust meal orders based on participation and unused meals on hand. A 3 business day notice to Nutrition Services Center for meal order changes must be given. Any phone calls or emails placed after 1:00 pm will be accepted the following day so 3 days from then to take effect.

Identify a complete meal as defined by the USDA child nutrition program; serve a complete meal to each child.

Responsible for completing accountability for meals received, served, and leftover. Maintain accurate records daily, including delivery receipts, daily meal count forms (roster), temperature log, transfer sheet, menu, and meal accounting worksheet; ensure that meal counts reflect physical meal inventory daily.

Submit records to Kids Cafe manager each Friday and the last day of each month.

Practice proper food safety and sanitation as per Kids Café HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) plan approved by local health department.

Maintain personal cleanliness and appearance appropriate for food handlers.

Clean kitchen and equipment used for Kids Cafe meal storage, heating, and service; other cleaning duties (floors and tables) will be negotiated with site management.

Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and guidance provided in English; must be able to work independently to heat and serve meals and keep accurate daily records.

Follow USDA, Washoe County Health District, Washoe County School District Nutrition Services, and Food Bank of Northern Nevada regulations, policies, and practices as trained to do so.

Attend food service training session once a year provided by Kids Cafe manager. Provide food safety training certificate (ServSafe good for 5 years) or attend food safety training provided by Food Bank of Northern Nevada upon hire and every 2 years to stay updated on food safety practices.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous food service experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Food Service experience
2. 1-2 years customer service experience.

Essential Functions

1. Responsible for ensuring that all partners receive annual site visits, assuring compliance with Feeding America standards.
2. Responsible for providing bi-monthly food safety trainings for all partners.
3. Providing weekly communication and monthly outreach to all partner agencies.
4. Provide training and support to all partners on Oasis Insights – a client tracking software. This includes attending monthly Oasis trainings with other Feeding America Food Banks.
5. Providing for data entry and providing administrative support for the Mobile Harvest Program as needed.
6. Developing a full understanding of program distribution, and serving as supplemental and primary back up staff to program coordinators when necessary.
7. Other duties as assigned to meet program objectives and reporting.

Travel

• Local travel to various worksites is required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

1. Position is a part-time position.
2. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours range from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 2 hours per day max.

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
3. Tasks will include bending, stooping, and lifting. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Candidate must have the ability to lift 40 pounds.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to bend, lift, and move constantly.
