Location: 434 W Lerdo Rd, Tucson, AZ 85706

Start Date: July 20, 2026

Compensation Range: $44,770.00 - $50,550.80 annually (DOE)

Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a nurturing and dedicated Kindergarten Teacher to provide foundational instruction in early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. This role is critical in building the academic and behavioral foundation that supports long-term student success.

AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making.

This role requires a teacher who is passionate about early childhood education and can create a joyful, structured, and engaging classroom environment where young learners thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Achievement

  • Deliver standards-aligned instruction in early literacy, math, and foundational academic skills.
  • Use developmentally appropriate teaching strategies including hands-on learning, guided play, and structured routines.
  • Build foundational reading skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Develop early numeracy skills including counting, number sense, and basic operations.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including English Language Learners and students with varying readiness levels.
  • Assess student progress regularly using formative and summative assessments to guide instruction.

Classroom Culture & Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and nurturing classroom environment with clear expectations and routines.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative behavior strategies to support positive student behavior.
  • Support students’ social-emotional development, including self-regulation, cooperation, and independence.
  • Foster a love of learning through engaging, age-appropriate activities and positive reinforcement.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level team members and instructional coaches to improve teaching practices.
  • Align instruction with school-wide academic goals and curriculum standards.
  • Contribute to school initiatives focused on early literacy and student achievement.

Family Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, behavior, and development.
  • Provide guidance to families on supporting learning at home.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
  • Build strong relationships with families to support student success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Valid teaching certification in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or similar field), OR
  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–2 teaching experience

Additionally, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills appropriate for early learners
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
