Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

This position is ideal for an RN who is comfortable caring for patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period in an acute-care hospital environment.

The successful candidate should have strong maternal-fetal assessment skills, be confident managing laboring patients, and be prepared to respond quickly to changes in maternal, fetal, or newborn condition.

Candidates must hold an active Colorado RN license or qualifying compact license and maintain current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications.

Key Responsibilities

·        Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum care.

·        Perform ongoing maternal and fetal assessments.

·        Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity.

·        Assess labor progression and identify changes in patient condition.

·        Support patients during spontaneous labor, induction, and delivery.

·        Assist physicians and other providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.

·        Prepare and support patients requiring cesarean delivery.

·        Provide immediate postpartum care to mothers.

·        Perform newborn assessments and support initial stabilization within scope of practice.

·        Recognize maternal, fetal, and neonatal complications and escalate concerns promptly.

·        Administer medications, IV fluids, and other therapies according to provider orders and facility protocols.

·        Provide patient and family education throughout the childbirth process.

·        Support breastfeeding, bonding, and postpartum education as appropriate.

·        Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

·        Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary care coordination.

·        Follow hospital policies, patient-safety standards, and infection-control requirements.

·        Participate in weekend and call coverage according to department scheduling.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

·        Active Colorado Registered Nurse license or qualifying compact RN license with authority to practice in Colorado

·        RN license in good standing

·        Current American Heart Association BLS

·        Current American Heart Association ACLS

·        Current NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program

·        Current STABLE certification

·        Recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience

·        Strong maternal and fetal assessment skills

·        Ability to work independently in an acute-care L&D setting

·        Ability to respond effectively to maternal, fetal, and neonatal emergencies

·        Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Experience

Strong candidates may also have experience with:

·        High-risk Labor & Delivery

·        Electronic fetal monitoring

·        Induction and augmentation of labor

·        Postpartum nursing

·        Newborn care

·        Cesarean-section circulation

·        Obstetric emergencies

·        Preeclampsia and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

·        Diabetes in pregnancy

·        VBAC/TOLAC

·        Previous travel nursing assignments

·        Rural or community hospital Labor & Delivery

Key Clinical Skills

Successful candidates should be comfortable with:

·        Labor and delivery nursing

Schedule Requirements

·        Day Shift

·        Three 12-hour shifts per week

·        36 hours per week

·        Rotating weekends are required.

·        Call rotation is generally approximately one 12-hour call shift every 6 weeks.

·        Call frequency may change based on department staffing and operational needs.

Candidates should be flexible regarding weekend and call scheduling throughout the assignment.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Labor & Delivery RN who can confidently manage laboring patients while providing safe, compassionate care to mothers and newborns.

You should have strong clinical judgment, excellent maternal-fetal assessment skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective during urgent obstetric situations.
