The Position:
The schedule is Tues - Sat, 2:00 PM- 10:30 PM.
Location: San Diego (Onsite)
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results in accordance with the Company’s CLIA quality management systems. The Laboratory Supervisor will work closely with and be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team responsible for quality assurance, client services, data management and clinical research.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Supervisor include the following, but not limited to:
- Day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance
- Schedule, assign, review, and evaluate the work of laboratory personnel
- Answer questions and resolve problems raised regarding service or test results
- Review quality control of the various procedures performed
- Direct evaluation and review of new procedures and recommending modifications
- Evaluate workload, space, equipment and staffing
- Interview, select, orient, train and evaluate new employees
- Plan, develop, recommend, initiate and implement approved changes in policies, procedures, and methods
- Implement operating procedures to comply with State and Federal laws, regulations and standards
- Investigate questionable test results
- Develop procedures, norms, and standards for new laboratory staff
- Evaluate the level of quality of service and current procedures and methods
- Advise staff in difficult tests or special situations
- Assess the value of new procedures, products, and equipment for utilization by the laboratory
- Prepare and justify equipment and personnel budgetary requests
- Develop, participate in, and attend educational and training programs
- Monitor and provide feedback to staff on performance of service standards
- Provide support and assistance utilize management principles and teamwork to promote achievement of common goals and to resolve problems
- Perform any other site/lab specific duties as assigned
Who You Are:
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Active California Department of Public Health Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biology Scientist (CGMBS) license (no exceptions)
- Experience in high complexity clinical laboratory testing, preferably in molecular diagnostics
- Performance of molecular testing (PCR, Microarray, Sanger/NGS sequencing) a plus
- Has at least 5 years of experience in molecular laboratory that demonstrate proficiency and independence in a clinical laboratory setting
- Preferably has experience serving as a General Supervisor, as defined by CLIA
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must be detail-oriented and comfortable with technology
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills across diverse platforms
- Excellent interpersonal communication and team player attitude
- Ability to adapt to change and a rapid work pace
- Maintains continuing education units required by California Department of Health Services and New York State Department of Health
