Laboratory Technician

About the Role

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory testing activities by performing routine tasks in accordance with defined standards and requirements. This role performs general functions required to support both analytical and microbiological testing activities. The Laboratory Technician assists in the preparation and maintenance of documentation, performs sample management, and supports special projects and investigations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory support and basic testing activities, including preparation of reagents and solutions, collection of samples, and execution of simple laboratory tests in accordance with defined standards and methods.


• Maintain complete and organized laboratory records and documentation and review entries for accuracy and completeness.


• Manage sample lifecycle activities and the associated documentation requirements, including intake, logging, labeling, tracking, retention, and disposal.


• Operate, monitor, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, and identify and escalate issues as needed. 


• Maintain laboratory workspaces, including routine cleaning and housekeeping, care of labware / glassware, restocking supplies, monitoring expiry dates, and waste disposal.  


• Support and execute special projects, laboratory studies, and investigations under supervision.


• Assist with the organization and presentation of data to support trend analyses, reports, and other technical documents. 


• Collaborate with other staff to ensure timely completion of testing and documentation tasks.


• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Associate’s degree in a scientific or technical field with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a laboratory environment; or a bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field.


• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.  


• Effective organizational skills and consistent follow-through. 


• Ability to follow written documents and verbal instructions. 


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 


• Capacity to manage multiple assigned tasks and projects.
