Job Description - Laboratory Technician I

Position Summary

 


The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for performing assigned Laboratory support functions including the preparation of media and reagents, maintenance, cleaning and sterilization of Laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies, assistance with basic laboratory testing functions, and documentation of data. The Laboratory Technician I performs work following strict safety protocols and compliance standards to maintain a clean and orderly work environment. 


 


Shift: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm


Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour based on experience

What You Will Do as a Laboratory Technician I

 



  • Plans, organizes, and prepares for the day’s work autonomously and in collaboration with team members to determine best methods to accomplish daily goals.

  • Prepares media (e.g., pumps) and reagents to support Laboratory testing functions (e.g., labels glassware, moves glassware).

  • Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes Laboratory materials, equipment, supplies, and general working area (e.g., washes dishes to remove fine powders) while maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Assists in the operation of the steam sterilizer and maintains traceability.

  • Compiles, records and maintains data in specified forms (paper and electronic) such as specification sheets, sterilization records, Microsoft Excel logs to track information, and label generation using computers and basic machines.

  • Assists with basic Laboratory testing functions as directed. This may include preparation, set-up and clean-up activities.

  • Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position may require the use of equipment and / or power tools, as applicable.

  • This position may require the incumbent to obtain their boilers license, as applicable.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

 


Required:



  • High school Diploma or GED.


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.



  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks using Microsoft Word and Excel.



  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work effectively.



  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including fractions and decimals.



  • Commitment to following safety protocols and identifying potential hazards.



  • Effective time‑management skills.


  • Ability to lift up to 25lb.

  • Ability to learn technical knowledge.

  • Ability to monitor self and environment to make improvements or take corrective action.

  • Ability to read and comprehend rules, schedules, procedures, and instructions.

  • Ability to comprehend oral information.

  • Ability to work in high pressure situations.

  • Ability to work autonomously.

Pay range for this opportunity is $20.00 - $25.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.


 


Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
