Lead Aerial Instructional Specialist

The UMO School of Physical Arts is a program of Open Space offering classes


in aerial, acro gymnastics, parkour, skateboarding, and Jiu Jitsu. UMO School


serves over 160 students youth through adults throughout the year with


performances in the winter and spring.The UMO School of Physical Arts seeks to inspire creative possibility and recognize students’ creative force by giving them a safe place to learn and a variety of tools based on UMO Ensemble’s dynamic physical theatre.


Open Space seeks an UMO School Lead Aerial Instructional Specialist with


excellent communication skills and extensive teaching experience in the


physical art discipline of aerial. The UMO School Lead Aerial Instructional


Specialist reports to the UMO Program Manager and is enthusiastic about


implementing a progressive aerial program working with and teaching youth.


The UMO School Lead Aerial Instructional Specialists teaches aerial classes,


throughout the class week with levels ranging from introductory through advanced


while abiding by the principles of the UMO School of Physical Arts. The UMO


Lead Aerial Instructor Specialist is expected to assist the UMO Program


Manager in the development and implementation of a progressive aerial


curriculum and teach dynamic, engaging, level-appropriate classes while


maintaining proper safety. This role has the opportunity for increasing school leadership/management opportunities.


Primary Job Duties


● Lead safe, level-appropriate classes that cater to the students in the


room


● Teach classes following the level of progressions laid out in the UMO


School curriculum.


● Rig/de-rig your classes and set up/strike any additional needed


equipment


● Assess student achievements and needs


● Provide supervisor with skill assessment for each student and discuss


advancement or adjustment plans for each student.


● Maintain discipline and engage students during instruction


● Available to teach classes during UMO School hours 3-7:15pm Monday - Thursday, and work occasional weekends (4-6 per year) for UMO School productions


● Oversee UMO School Aerial Curriculum development and progression


under the supervision of UMO Program Manager.


● Communicate curriculum to aerial instructors and ensure


understanding of and implementation of curriculum.


● Monitor and ensure appropriate aerial student placement and


progression


● Assist UMO Program Manager in creating class schedule and recruiting


additional aerial instructors as needed.


● Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


● Embrace the missions, vision, core competencies, and values of Open


Space for Arts & Community and UMO School of Physical Arts


● A minimum of 4 years professional teaching experience


● Excellent teaching skills and strong professional background in


teaching area of expertise.


● Ability to demonstrate proper techniques


● Excellent customer service skills, both internal and external.


● Demonstrate excellent communication skills.


● Experience working with children and young people.


● Group classroom management skills


● Experienced/comfortable teaching all levels of students intro through


advanced


● Punctual and reliable.


● Schedule flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events


● Must be a legal resident of Washington State


Hours/Compensation


This is a non-exempt regular part-time position: 20 hours/week


Benefits include:Paid planning time, open studio access times for training and personal rehearsals. Possible Medical, Dental, Vision benefits, and Life insurance.


$50-$60/hr for teaching hours, $20-25/hr for administrative hours DOE
