With 204-beds, it is the third largest of the four Duke Health hospitals and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.


 


Lead Clinical Dietitian


Location: Duke Raleigh Hospital


3400 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609


Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM


***This position is eligible for a $5,000 commitment bonus and up to $8,000 in relocation assistance***


Duke University Health System seeks to hire an experienced Lead Clinical Dietitian who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together. The Duke Raleigh Hospital (DRAH) campus provides a patient-friendly setting no matter where you visit us -- in our hospital’s North Pavilion, South Pavilion, or clinics. Clinical dietitians at Duke Health work across inpatient and outpatient settings, providing specialized medical nutrition therapy for oncology, diabetes, weight management, and surgical preparation. 


 


What you will do:


In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a Clinical Dietitian, function in a supervisory role as a team lead. Mentor, lead, champion, and curate a culture of servant leadership guiding dietitians to employ critical thinking, problem resolution, patient advocacy, and collaboration as a critical member of the treatment team. Anticipate the needs of patients, the hospital, and the team, making it possible for clinical dietitians to provide effective and empathetic nutrition care within the acute setting.


 



  • Leads, coaches, and mentors members of the team cultivating an environment of professional growth and development

  • Facilitates the development of team by identifying team goals and outcome measures that are consistent with Nutrition Services, DRAH, DUHS goals and strategic plans

  • Plans, coordinates, and monitors the work operations of the clinical die­­titian staff

  • Promotes team building, communication, and problem solving among staff and cross functionally with appropriate groups

  • Demonstrates professionalism in speech, conduct, work habits, customer service, communication, and problem resolution

  • Serve as a point of escalation for others with regard to advanced patient care situations

  • Advise staff and include departmental leadership as necessary and coordinate cross departmental collaboration



  • Assist department leadership in reviewing and updating department policies and procedures

  • Meets monthly with the department leadership for coaching/mentoring and to review, plan, and discuss team successes, challenges, and opportunities

  • Participates in candidate recruiting efforts and coordinates/conducts candidate interviews

  • Owns on-boarding of new staff: coordinating orientation schedules, departmental introductions, and training activities

  • Conducts 90-day performance evaluation and provides feedback to departmental leadership

  • Other duties assigned by the department leadership


 


Required Qualifications


 


Education



  • Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major

  • Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian

  • Graduate degree or current specialist certification


 


Experience



  • Minimum 3 years as a clinical dietitian (2+ years at DRAH strongly preferred)



  • Previous management experience preferred


 


Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification



  • Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration

  • Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition
