Lead CV Invasive Specialist

Licensed and/or certified provider supervising a team of invasive specialists in an interventional cardiology procedural area; responsible for oversight of all invasive specialist team members including personnel management, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, inventory management and fiscal/budgetary accountability; reports directly to Nurse Manager.

Principal Accountabilities:
Job Function: 01: General. Supervises Cath Lab invasive cardiovascular and radiology technicians in the performance of invasive procedures. Supervises proficiency of personnel monitoring quality of work performed daily. Reviews daily scheduled procedures to ensure adequate staffing levels. Works collaboratively with the Assistant Nurse Manager to facilitate patient and procedure flow on a daily basis. Communicates effectively with staff, physicians and leadership team before and after changes are implemented. Directs and reassigns personnel as case volume/complexity requires. Maintains scheduling for daily staffing and on-call coverage. C collaborates with nursing leadership in assessing the needs of the department. Appropriately delegates responsibilities. Participates in monthly staff meetings to communicate with all relevant departments, hospital, and system updates. Participates in weekly system-wide leadership meetings.
Job Function: 02: Staff Development. Provides opportunities for staff to verbalize needs and concerns. Presents calm, flexible conflict resolution and seeks to jointly solve problems. Offers feedback to the staff on progress towards department and personal goals. Evaluates and prepares performance appraisals annually and on time for staff. Initiates performance improvement plans and provides counseling when necessary. Promotes a healthy work environment to support retention. Accountable for interviewing applicants for staff positions.
Job Function: 03: Learning, Teaching. Promotes the growth and development of the Team; Collaborates with Unit Educator to assess unit and individual learning needs, offering learning opportunities through lunch and learn in service classes and education and competencies. Oversees the orientation process to ensure behavioral and clinical competence. Train/precept new staff and students on procedures, X-ray, digital & hemodynamic equipment. Supervise & assign preceptors for new employees and students. Identify staff strengths and utilize them for training and in-services. Prepare/approve orientation packets for learners, new hires, and assign preceptors. Coordinate the instruction of the students clinically and didactically. Assess the students’ progress weekly with mentor and student. Inform the C VT School Director of any student issues. Inform others of new quality procedures.
Job Function: 04: Clinical & Procedural Skills. Clinically proficient with preparing patients for procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, scrubbing all invasive cases as first –assist with interventional operators, monitors, documents cases.
Prepare room and equipment for the procedure. Prepare, maintain, operate, and calibrate all technical equipment. Assure QC for all equipment are done and recorded.
Retrieve patient images. Accurately enter demographic information and other relevant data into the hemodynamic computer. Measures pressure and calculate all data and uses formulas accordingly. Assist physician at tableside as scrub interventional procedures proficiently. Prepare balloons and stents for use. Calibrate and operate all atherectomy & thrombectomy devices (Rotoblator, Angiojet, etc.).
Calibrate and operate IVUS/ FFR/IFR equipment. Prepare and operate distal protection devices. Prepare closure devices for deployment. Remove radial sheaths and apply trans radial (TR) bands. Be familiar with all diagnostic and interventional products in the lab and as new products come on the market. Be proficient in use of all Cath Lab equipment. Possess the ability to compare interventional products (crossing profile,FDA approvals, etc.) Perform AC T by withdrawing blood sample and utilizing analyzer to calculate AC T time. Note vitals before, during, & post sheath removal. Mark pedal pulses pre & post sheath removal. Assess patient for high risk factors for hematoma or other vascular complications. Safely remove sheath and maintain hemostasis on arterial and venous puncture sites. Educate patients on post sheath removal care. 
Educate staff on sheath removal techniques and groin management. Document groin complications and patient status in Progress Note and in Cath Lab logbook.
Job Function: 05: Fiscal Responsibility. Assists Manager in assessing department needs for minor and major capital purchases. Investigates cost saving standardization of supplies. Reviews supply variances with Manager and suggest cost effective initiatives to stay budget neutral. Oversees completion of proper billing. Counsels staff if any abuse of payroll compliance occurs. Supports departmental financial targets.
Job Function: 06: Inventory Control, Equipment Function & Patient Billing. Make inventory recommendations to C C L Manager and Medical Director. Participate in the evaluation of new products. Recognize and report defective equipment to clinical engineering. Enter charges accurately and comprehensively for all cases; hold direct reports accountable for all documentation/billing/charges. Oversee all aspects of inventory, C heck the sterility of all essential supplies. Act as a resource for all diagnostic and interventional products in Cath Lab.
Job Function:07: Professionalism. Works independently with minimal supervision. Organizes written communication in a logical way for format and content. Uses correct grammar and punctuation. Communicates with the manager before any changes are made regarding inventory, procedures, and policies. Shows motivation and enthusiasm with regard to daily duties. Identify personal performance deficiencies and seek opportunities to upgrade personal/professional growth through education. Responds in a positive manner during high volume or short staffing, serving as role model with professional attitude, time and attendance. • Graduated from an accredited Radiologic Technology School, Cardiovascular Technologist School and/or Diagnostic Cardiovascular OR Medical Sonography School with registry through CCI or ARDMS.
• Obtained an associate degree or higher in an applied science with prior experience as C V Professional (discretion of departmental leader).
• Expert/Lead, level is demonstrated by candidates who demonstrate strong leadership skills; a formal/informal leader in the department viewed by peers and leadership as a clinical expert; models HRO principles; well-respected and supportive; contributes to a positive work environment consistently; holds others accountable; adaptable to meet the needs of the department via on call coverage, daily schedule; able to perform all requirements clinically and administratively to fulfill the role of lead invasive specialist.
• Ability to physically navigate within the Cath lab, safely, rapidly and efficiently, especially when providing life-saving support for patients (i.e. STEMI, cardiogenic shock) which requires additional team member and ancillary department support, and multiple devices/equipment Ability to work in a fast paced, critical care environment.
