Position Scope: The Lead Dining Room Associate delivers excellent, personalized service to residents and guests while leading the dining team during meal periods. Working under the direction of the Dining Room Manager, the Lead Dining Room Associate serves as the shift lead when the manager is off the floor, trains and supports Dining Room Associates, coordinates service with the kitchen, and makes sure the dining room and lounge are clean, well set, and ready for every meal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Completes all hours of state mandated continuing education each year.

• Performs all duties of a Dining Room Associate, including taking orders, serving meals, delivering meals to residents’ rooms, and clearing, cleaning, and setting tables.
• Serves as shift lead when the Dining Room Manager is not on the floor, directing Dining Room Associates during meal periods so service is timely, accurate, and friendly.
• Leads the pre-meal line-up, reviewing the daily menu and specials, resident special needs and concerns, uniform and grooming standards, and daily service reminders.
• Assigns sections and side work by meal period, following the schedule and standards set by the Dining Room Manager.
• Trains and mentors new Dining Room Associates on sequence of service, menu knowledge, and dining standards, and reports training progress to the Dining Room Manager.
• Ensures residents and guests are greeted promptly and that tables are set in a uniform and consistent manner.
• Responds to resident and guest concerns during service, resolves what can be resolved on the spot, and escalates the rest to the Dining Room Manager.
• Coordinates with the kitchen on timing, menu substitutions, and room tray delivery.
• Completes opening and closing checklists and ensures the dining room and lounge are clean, stocked, and in compliance with state sanitation codes.
• Reports performance, attendance, or conduct concerns to the Dining Room Manager. Corrective action, hiring, and scheduling decisions remain with the Dining Room Manager.
• Covers open shifts as needed to meet staffing needs.
• Adheres to procedures for fire, life, safety, disaster, security, worker safety, and other emergencies.
• Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One (1) year of experience in restaurant, hospitality, or senior living dining service. 
• Lead, trainer, or shift supervisor experience preferred.
• Excellent customer service skills and a genuine interest in working with seniors.
• Ability to give clear direction to peers, stay calm during busy service, and handle concerns with tact.
• A positive attitude and ability to work well with cooks and other staff.
• Able to perform high-quality work while unsupervised and to keep the team on track when the manager is away.
• Current Food Handler card, or ability to obtain one within the timeframe required by state and local regulations.
• Current First Aid and CPR preferred, or willingness to obtain.
• Pass a criminal background check as required by state regulations.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn company applications.
• Flexible availability during dining operations hours, including weekends and holidays, and willingness to work any shift to meet staffing needs.

• Push - constantly 0 – 10 pounds, frequently 11 – 50 pounds, occasionally 51 – 100 pounds.
• Climb – must be able to climb stairs on a frequent basis, with the opportunity to utilize the elevator as an alternate resource if available.
• Bend – must be able to bend at the waist, knees, hips and spine on a frequent basis, may require frequently manipulating weights of 25 pounds or more.
• Twist or rotate – must be able to twist or rotate occasionally at the trunk, hips, knees, and neck, manipulating weights of 25 pounds or more.
• Reach - may occasionally reach overhead, requiring manipulation of weight of 10 pounds or less, and below waist manipulating weight of 25 pounds or more.
• Sensory Vision – must be able to read clearly with or without corrective lenses.
• Hear - Must be able to hear telephone, audible alarms, bells, and signals related to resident safety with or without hearing devices.
• Speech/Language – Speech/Language – must have strong command of English sufficient to read and write and ability to communicate with the residents.
