Lead Surgical Assistant

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Lead Surgical Assistant to join our oral surgery team. In this vital role, you will serve as a key member of the surgical team, providing expert assistance during a wide range of surgical procedures across various specialties. Your leadership will ensure that perioperative care is delivered with precision, safety, and compassion. You will coordinate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and uphold hospital standards. Duties

• Assist surgeons during operative procedures by preparing the surgical rooms, arranging instruments, and ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
• Lead and supervise surgical assisting staff, ensuring adherence to OSHA compliance techniques and infection control protocols.
• Monitor patient vital signs and physiological responses throughout surgery, providing critical support for patient stability.
• Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care activities, including discharge planning and patient education.
• Maintain detailed medical records and documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in hospital medicine, pediatric (pediatrics), intensive care units (ICU), and perioperative settings to deliver comprehensive patient care.
• Demonstrate proficiency in suturing, dental knowledge, medical terminology, and physiology to assist effectively during complex surgeries.
• Uphold hospital patient safety standards by implementing healthcare infection prevention measures and maintaining sterile environments.
• Contribute to analysis of surgical processes for continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing hospital operations and patient outcomes.

Skills

• Proficiency with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems for accurate documentation.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, dental terminology, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
• Skilled in suturing techniques and perioperative care management across medical-surgical disciplines.
• Critical care experience including vital signs monitoring, acute care procedures, discharge planning, and hospital medicine workflows.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required to ensure readiness for emergency situations.
• Ability to analyze clinical data effectively to support decision-making processes related to patient care quality and safety.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to lead teams confidently while maintaining a focus on patient-centered outcomes.
• Knowledge of infection prevention protocols and hospital safety standards to minimize risks of healthcare-associated infections.
