Job Description - Lecturer, Management & Entrepreneurship

$11,420 per course or $102,780 at 1.0 FTE/9 Courses

Purpose:

The Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university in Silicon Valley, seeks a Lecturer to teach and develop various undergraduate Professional Development Courses beginning in Fall 2026.


Santa Clara University and the Leavey School of Business have a long tradition of teaching excellence. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in career coaching for new professionals. Teaching is judged by the "teacher's total effect upon the education of his or her students" and includes classroom instruction, academic advising, and curriculum development.

The successful applicant is expected to teach several sections of MGMT 50, an undergraduate career development course. They will also teach and coordinate BUSN 196: Leadership Practicum for Santa Clara Consulting, as well as coordinate additional career development programming, including the Silicon Valley Executive Presence Program. Additionally, relevant courses may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The position duties include teaching/advising, service, and professional activity. Teaching is the primary responsibility of a Lecturer. The maximum teaching load is nine undergraduate courses over three academic quarters (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Lecturers are appointed for a three-year term. Reappointment to subsequent three-year terms depends on the availability of funds, the persistence of programmatic need, and superior teaching.


Responsibilities: 
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Planning and teaching 5-6 MGMT 50 courses at the undergraduate level.

  • Fulfilling all duties associated with courses, including:

  • a. Design course syllabi in collaboration with the Course Coordinator.

  • b. Preparing for and conducting all assigned class meetings.

  • c. Assigning and evaluating written work, projects, and exams that align with course learning objectives.

  • d. Holding weekly office hours on campus.

  • e. Assigning and submitting student grades to the Registrar’s office by the designated deadline.

  • Teaching and coordinating BUSN 196: Leadership Practicum for Santa Clara Consulting 

  • Advising a student organization

  • Serving as a liaison between company partners and student leaders

  • Overseeing project contracts to completion

  • Facilitating additional Career Development programming, including: 

  • Executing the quarterly Silicon Valley Executive Presence program 

  • Collaborating with the Senior Director to launch additional career development opportunities

  • Attending department and school meetings as requested.

  • Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.


Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master's Degree in a related field and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.


Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate teaching experience in career development and strategic consulting preferred. Demonstrated expertise in career coaching for new professionals.
