Summary

Under direct supervision, is responsible for assisting inmates in the Adult Detention Center or Jail Annex Libraries; searches for legal reading materials; obtains additional reading materials from outside sources; interprets legal terminology; maintains request logs; schedules inmates to attend law library; notarizes legal documents; makes copies; orders and maintains equipment, materials and supplies; and performs related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists inmates in searching for legal reading materials in the Adult Detention Center or Jail Annex Libraries

• Interacts with other local libraries to obtain legal reading materials not available at Adult Detention Center or Jail Annex Libraries

• Assists inmates in interpreting legal terminology

• Maintains logs of materials requested by inmates

• Schedules inmates to attend law library and maintains records

• Shelves and files legal reading materials

• Notarizes legal documents such as motions for inmates filing court appeals

• Copies legal reading materials not available to inmates

• Orders and maintains equipment, materials and supplies

• Performs other duties as required 

Minimum Qualifications:

Working Conditions and Physical Demands: 

• Working conditions are primarily in an office environment located within the County Jail with constant exposure to hostile or violent people

• Frequently moves items weighing up to 20 pounds

• Occasionally moves about the office

• Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information

• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery

• Positions self to perform essential functions

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position
