Job Description - Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)

About Us:

At Child & Family Development (C&FD), experienced clinicians join us to elevate their practice, shape emerging professionals, and contribute meaningfully to an interdisciplinary model of pediatric care. Established in 1980, we are Charlotte’s longest-standing private, outpatient pediatric therapy provider with a trusted reputation for quality, collaboration, and clinical excellence.

Our integrated team includes Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Educational Specialists, Psychologists, Counselors, and ABA professionals—supported by a dedicated client services team. Mid- and senior-level counselors at C&FD can influence clinical programming, lead case conceptualization, and deepen their expertise in specialized therapeutic modalities.

What Sets Us Apart:

  • Opportunities to lead case consultations and contribute to program development.

  • The chance to define or expand specialty areas, such as play therapy, neurodivergent psychoeducation, clinical interventions, social skills groups, or parent–child relational work.

  • Collaborative interdisciplinary environment with structured opportunities for clinical dialogue.

  • Access to thoughtfully designed therapy spaces and a wide range of clinical materials.

  • Administrative support for all scheduling, referrals, authorizations, billing, and claims.

  • In-office and telehealth treatment options.

  • Stable W2 employment with strong earning potential tied to billable hours.

  • A 45+ year reputation for ethical, integrated, child-centered care.

  • We offer a Base Salary + Billable Hour compensation model designed to give clinicians both stability and room to grow. Full-time clinicians receive a dependable base salary set at 75% of anticipated earnings, with additional pay for each billable hour above a set threshold, based on experience. All indirect work—documentation, meetings, trainings—is already covered by your salary. This model provides predictable income while rewarding the high-quality care you deliver.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide individual, play-based, and group therapy to children and adolescents.

  • Utilize and refine evidence-based interventions, with autonomy in treatment planning and approach.

  • Lead parent-support and psychoeducation interventions, helping families build sustainable skills.

  • Serve as a clinical resource to the team—consulting with colleagues, supporting complex cases, and modeling strong documentation and case management practices.

  • Collaborate with psychologists, rehabilitation therapists, and educational specialists to deliver integrated care.

  • Participate in internal trainings, staff development initiatives, and special projects aligning with your areas of expertise.

Benefits Include:

  • Strong income potential.

  • Base salary with additional earning potential for billable hours.

  • Comprehensive benefit package with employer contribution.

  • 401(k) Plan with an employer match.

  • $500 sign on/retention bonus.

  • Professional Development benefit.

  • Professional Liability insurance coverage.

Requirements Include:

  • Full licensure as an LCMHC in North Carolina (no associates or provisionally licensed applicants)

  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience, ideally within child/adolescent outpatient settings.

  • Demonstrated competency in play therapy modalities and child-centered interventions.

  • Experience providing parent guidance, family interventions, and behavioral support.

  • Strong diagnostic, conceptualization, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines while also working independently.

  • Excellent communication skills, clinical judgment, and professional presence.

  • Reside in the Charlotte area or plan to relocate within the next three months.

If you’re looking for a collaborative pediatric setting where you can grow your expertise and contribute to a mission-driven, interdisciplinary team, we’d love to meet you!

Apply now to join a trusted practice with over 45 years of service to Charlotte children and families.
