Job Description - Linux Systems Network Administrator / Desktop Support

\nThe day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Provide system administration and desktop support including adding/updating user facing programs. Manage the configuration of system hardware and software, including compliance with all Information Assurance (IA) requirements.  Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, including updating existing software, installation of new software, resolution of software issues, fabrication of cables, and repairing or replacing hardware components.  Provide user support for operating systems, peripherals, and applications. 
  • Conduct tests of IA safeguards in accordance with established test plans and procedures.  Implement applicable patches including IA vulnerability alerts (IAVA), IA vulnerability bulletins (IAVB), and technical advisories (TA) for the applicable operating system(s).  Perform system hardening in accordance with applicable Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). 
  • Perform system backups, including creation of software build media, installation procedures, backup copies of media, installation and support for installation errors and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Willingness to perform other duties that may be assigned to support the lab environments and users including media transfers, Base Inventory Tracking System (BITS) support and visitor control.
Qualifications
  • Associates/Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent) and 1-5 years of experience in information assurance.  Ability to apply basic knowledge of security concepts and practices in a computer environment.  2-3 years of professional experience can be substituted for the Bachelor of Science degree requirement.  Must be able to qualify for Cyber Security Work Force IAT Level I.
  • Requires CompTIA Security+
  • Requires Linux Certification (Red Hat Linux Certified System Admin or Linux+) to be qualified for an IAT Level I Cyber Security Work Force (CSWF) position are a plus, training may be substituted
  • Detailed knowledge of Linux and Windows security hardening principles and practices.  Knowledge of securing operating systems via following STIG, CTO’s and IAVA requirements.
  • Knowledge of both Windows server/service environments as well as Unix/Linux servers in order to operate in a versatile systems administration team.
  • Other certifications/experience that would be a plus include:  Microsoft Windows 11 and Server Certifications, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Linux+ and Cisco CCNA.

This position requires the candidate to have/obtain a government security clearance to the level of SECRET.
