COMMUNITY HEALTH ACTION OF STATEN ISLAND

The Counselor assesses and treats individuals with mental, emotional, or substance abuse problems, including abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs. Activities may include individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, client advocacy, prevention, and education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•        Provide substance use disorder treatment services .


•        Conduct initial client screenings, intake interviews and assessments


•        Write and update individual client-based, goal-oriented treatment plans, treatment plan reviews and progress notes


•        Conduct individual, group and family counseling sessions (e.g., CBT and Motivational Interviewing)


•        Provide crisis intervention counseling to individuals and families


•        Maintain detailed client charts in compliance with NYS OASAS and OMIG requirements


•        Communicate both written and orally with other service providers


•        Participate in case conferences and clinical supervisions


•        Provide education to clients and community members about mental or physical illness, abuse medication or available community resources


•        Be available and willing to take on additional responsibilities as needed


•        Continue professional developmentEducation/Experience;


•  

•        Master’s Degree in social work REQUIRED. Experience, under supervision, in effectively conducting and documenting individual substance abuse assessments utilizing evidence-based assessment tools.


•        Excellent organizational skills and an orientation toward detail and accuracy


•        Additional CASAC certification is preferred


•        Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
