Job Description - Lot Tech Manager

DOUG SMITH KIA | Lindon, UT

Lot Technician Manager

Job Description

DEPARTMENT Used Vehicle Operations REPORTS TO Used Car Manager

FLSA STATUS Non-Exempt LOCATION Lindon, UT

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lot Technician Manager (LTM) owns the physical readiness, organization, and presentation of Doug Smith Kia's vehicle inventory and dealership grounds. This role directly supervises the lot attendant/porter team and is the operational link between vehicle acquisition and the showroom: preparing every new, used, and trade unit for delivery or front-line merchandising, maintaining lot and facility standards, and ensuring inventory-related compliance items are in place before a vehicle is offered for sale. The LTM works in close daily coordination with the Used Car Manager to keep the reconditioning-to-frontline pipeline moving and to protect merchandising and regulatory compliance on all pre-owned inventory.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Lot Organization & Inventory Presentation

• Maintain overall lot organization — straighten rows, park like models together, and keep CPO units clearly organized and easy to locate

• Conduct routine lot walks to confirm every unit is presentable, correctly positioned, and merchandising-ready

• Pick up trash throughout the lot as needed and pull weeds between scheduled lawn care visits

• Assign and manage keys through the key box for the sales and used car teams

Frontline Readiness & Recon Support (coordinated with Used Car Manager)

• Complete delivery prep on all incoming new, used, and trade vehicles: wash and dry, vacuum, and wipe down dash and windows

• Check in vehicles at delivery, inspect for damage, and turn in the bill of lading

• Support the Used Car Manager's reconditioning process by prioritizing detail and prep work on units in the recon pipeline and flagging bottlenecks that could delay front-line readiness

• Coordinate photo capture of all pre-owned inventory both pre-shop and after detail, and deliver photos promptly to keep online merchandising accurate and current

Merchandising & Compliance Support

• Ensure all vehicles carry required license plates and stickers, including a properly completed FTC Buyers Guide on every used unit before it is offered for sale

• Partner with the Used Car Manager during lot walks and inventory audits to confirm 100% merchandising and compliance coverage on used inventory

• Flag any unit missing pricing labels, Buyers Guides, or merchandising materials to the Used Car Manager for correction

Facility

• Purchase, organize, and restock waiting area amenities

• Keep seating areas, tables, and trash receptacles clean and tidy

• Organize and set up Kia point-of-sale showroom items

Team Leadership

• Hire, train, and manage lot attendants/porters

• Manage timecards and approve schedules

• Ensure adequate staffing coverage throughout all hours of operation

• Report lot readiness, recon support turnaround, and staffing status to the Used Car Manager and GSM as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in a dealership lot, porter, detail, or similar automotive role required

• Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred

• Working familiarity with FTC Used Car Rule / Buyers Guide requirements preferred

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; comfortable coordinating across Sales, Service, Detail, and Used Car departments

• Ability to lift/move items up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule including some Saturdays
