Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Hand & Upper Extremity Program

 

Requirements

  • Current LPN licensure
  • 5+ years of experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with: 
    • Pre-operative patient counseling
    • Medication reconciliation
    • Patient education
    • Surgery scheduling

 

  • Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The Hand & Upper Extremity Program is one of the fastest-growing programs within IU Health. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced LPN who enjoys administrative coordination, patient education, and supporting a high-volume surgical practice. This role is primarily administrative and serves as a key member of the Hand & Upper Extremity team. The LPN will coordinate surgery scheduling, provide pre-operative patient counseling and education, communicate with surgeons and nursing staff, and support clinical operations as needed. This position also serves as a backup resource for the clinical nursing team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures
  • Conduct pre-operative patient counseling and education
  • Perform medication reconciliation
  • Communicate with patients, surgeons, and the Hand RN team
  • Assist with care coordination and patient preparation activities
  • Provide backup support to the clinical nursing team
  • Cross-train in Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery scheduling functions

 

What a Typical Day Looks Like

  • Surgery scheduling and coordination
  • Patient pre-operative counseling and education
  • Collaboration with surgeons and nursing staff
  • Administrative support for clinic and surgical workflows
  • Work Breakdown: 100% administrative responsibilities

 

Knows and uses the nursing process in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care to individual patients. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team. Evaluates response to interventions and patient status toward goal achievement. Accepts delegated nursing measures for which he or she knows he or she is prepared, qualified and licensed to perform.

  • Requires graduation from a nationally accredited licensed practical nursing program.
  • Requires an active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) LPN license.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Successful completion of orientation required.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
