Machine/ Field Service Technician

Company Summary

Continuous Composites, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is the industry leader of Continuous Fiber 3D Printing (CF3D®). We are developing a novel manufacturing method for carbon fiber composite components, primarily for aerospace customers.

Your Role on the Team

We’re seeking an experienced, versatile Technician who excels in manufacturing operations, engineering development, field service support, and quality inspection. You will support day-to-day production, assemble and maintain CF3D® hardware, execute structured test plans, travel to customer sites for system commissioning and service, and contribute to multi-year product development initiatives.

Engineering & Manufacturing Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, materials, software, controls) to execute multi-year development plans


• Maintain CF3D® hardware and prototype assemblies


• Assemble and test prototype hardware


• Post-process printed samples for analysis and test purposes


• Run tests with varied process parameters to optimize throughput and part quality


• Record and document test data to drive improvements in the CF3D® process


• Interface with development teams to integrate materials, process, hardware, and software


• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, and process issues


• Support production operations including assembly, commissioning, and field service of CF3D® systems

Field Service & Customer Support Responsibilities

• Work alongside the manufacturing team in day-to-day production operations


• Assemble complete CF3D® printers and prepare systems for shipment or deployment


• Perform startup and commissioning of CF3D® systems in the field


• Provide field service support for existing installations


• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues onsite with customers


• Collaborate with engineering teams to support system performance and customer needs


• Escalate risks or technical issues appropriately to ensure timely resolution

Quality Technician Competencies

• Apply strong math skills to inspect, measure, and validate dimensional accuracy and process conformity


• Perform quality control checks across manufacturing and test operations


• Conduct non-destructive inspection (NDI) on printed components and assemblies


• Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)


• Experience with CMM or C-scanner systems is a plus


• Document inspection findings and drive quality improvements


• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address quality variances

Required Qualifications

• Minimum Associate’s degree in chemical, materials, electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering, or equivalent experience


• Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing, development, production, quality, or field service environment


• Low-voltage diagnostics and troubleshooting experience


• Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and collaborate with all stakeholders


• Strict adherence to test plans and procedures


• Strong math proficiency for measurement and inspection


• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills


• Ability to lift up to 50 lb


• Computer literacy and strong diagnostic skills

Desired Experience

• Familiarity with g-code


• Experience with 6-axis robots


• Additive manufacturing experience


• Mechanical fabrication experience


• PLC programming and troubleshooting experience


• Soldering and electrical wiring experience


• Low-voltage wiring and troubleshooting experience


• Experience with CMM or C-scanner equipment


• Experience with non-destructive inspection methods (ultrasonic, visual, penetrant)

Travel Requirements

• Ability to travel to customer sites, vendor facilities, and field installations (estimated 20–40%, depending on project load)


• Ability to work onsite for multi-day commissioning and troubleshooting assignments


• Must maintain eligibility for customer-specific site access, including badging and background requirements

Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. and must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. Person under 22 CFR 120.62. Continuous Composites generally does not provide sponsorship for work visas.
