Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant plays an important role in maintaining the comfort, safety, and overall appearance of The Vered. This position supports the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of resident apartments, common areas, building systems, and community spaces.
Working closely with the maintenance team, the Maintenance Assistant performs routine repairs, preventive maintenance, and general upkeep while responding to resident and operational needs in a timely and professional manner. The ideal candidate is dependable, hands-on, service-oriented, and takes pride in maintaining a beautiful and well-functioning environment for our residents.
Essential Job Duties
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout resident apartments, common areas, and community spaces.
- Assist with basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance tasks.
- Repair or replace light bulbs, fixtures, plumbing fixtures, doors, locks, hardware, and other building components as needed.
- Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance of building systems and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
- Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance requests and emergency service needs.
- Complete assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner, documenting work performed as required.
- Assist maintenance team members with larger repairs, projects, apartment turnovers, and community improvements.
- Help maintain appropriate inventory levels of maintenance supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe maintenance work areas.
- Follow all safety procedures and community policies when performing maintenance duties.
- Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with residents, families, guests, and team members.
- Participate in scheduled on-call coverage as needed.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the community.
Schedule & Availability
This position requires flexibility based on the needs of the community. Availability may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and occasional on-call or emergency coverage.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of maintenance experience in senior living, residential apartments, hospitality, or a similar environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of general residential building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, flooring, appliances, and general repairs.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems and basic HVAC maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with residents, families, guests, and team members.
- Must be dependable, flexible, professional, and demonstrate integrity in the performance of assigned duties.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests and complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently. For items weighing more than 50 pounds, appropriate equipment or assistance must be used.
- Ability to move light furniture and maintenance equipment as needed.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull while performing assigned duties.
- Ability to safely climb and descend ladders approximately 6–8 feet or higher, as required.
- Must be able to perform the physical tasks associated with routine building maintenance and repairs.
- May occasionally be exposed to unsanitary conditions, unpleasant odors, dust, noise, and cleaning or maintenance chemicals.
- Must follow established safety procedures and properly use required protective equipment when performing maintenance duties.
