Job Description - Maintenance Crew Leader

Description:


The role of the Maintenance Crew Leader is to direct and maintain organization within the Maintenance mechanical team which he/she is assigned. This person will make sure that instructions and information is communicated from crew to crew as far as work lists and activities of the day are documented and resolved. He/she will work closely with the Operations Supervisor on the crew as well as the Maintenance Supervisor. It is also a “Working” position, meaning that the Crew Leader will assist crew members in various tasks when needed.


 


Working Conditions:


Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.


 


1. Qualifications:


1.1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.


1.2. English fluency required.


1.3. Possess leadership skills and communicate well with all departments within the organization.


1.4. General understanding of all aspects of the pipe manufacturing operation.


1.5. Has prior experience in a leadership role and managing small groups of employees.


1.6. Understands all plant safety rules and regulations and makes sure that all are being followed.


1.7. Have good reporting skills and the ability to document the detailed activities of the shift both verbally and in written form.


1.8. Basic understanding of simple electrical circuits as it relates to mechanical equipment and sequencing of mechanical components.


1.9. Ability to read documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure/equipment manuals as well as Mechanical schematic drawings. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.


1.10. Spanish as a second language is preferred, but not required.


 


2. Responsibilities:


2.1. Ensure effectiveness communication between crews at shift change.


2.2. Meet daily with the Operations Supervisor on the shift to ensure that all equipment is available and functioning properly.


2.3. Make sure that the Daily Activity Logs, scheduled P.M.’s and check sheets are completed in detail by all his/her crew members.


2.4. Ensures that information regarding equipment needing attention and/or parts needed to make repairs are passed on to the proper persons


2.5. Attends all required training and safety meetings/classes.


2.6. Must be available to, on occasion, work outside their regular schedule, to assist in the implementation of process changes and major repair

2.7. Ensures that all trouble calls are responded to in a timely and effective manner.


2.8. Assists in vacation scheduling and performing Employee evaluations.


2.9. Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.


2.10. Supports HSE-related programs that will increase awareness and promote a safety culture.


 


3. Activities:


3.1. Assists in repairs when needed.


3.2. Assist in the input of Work Orders through the CMMS of the Maintenance Department


3.3. Assists in Employee Training and Improvement programs.


3.4. This position may require operating a Forklift, Overhead Crane, Manlift or Carry Deck.


3.5. Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.


3.6. Other duties as assigned.


 


4. Authority and Obligation:


4.1. This position has the authority to stop an operation if he/she deems it necessary, for reasons of imminent safety and/or possible equipment damage. However, he/she must notify the Operations Supervisor on duty and follow the established notification procedure if the interruption is for an extended time period.
