The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating maintenance, repairs, and upkeep activities within the facility. This role is a key leadership position that bridges the gap between senior management and the maintenance team, ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and a high standard of work. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Director of Facilities. This position starts immediately.
Essential Functions
Team Leadership & Management:
Supervises, trains, and mentors a team of maintenance technicians, mechanics, and other maintenance staff.
Delegates daily work assignments, sets priorities, and ensures tasks are completed accurately and on time.
Conducts performance evaluations, provides feedback, and fosters a positive and productive work environment.
Operational Oversight:
Develops and implements preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the long-term reliability and efficiency of all equipment and systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
Inspects facilities and equipment regularly to identify potential issues, address maintenance needs, and ensure compliance with company standards.
Coordinates and oversees repair, installation, and refurbishment projects, ensuring they are completed within budget and on schedule.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensures all maintenance activities are performed in strict adherence to company policies and health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
Conducts regular safety inspections and leads team safety briefings.
Maintains accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, equipment history, and safety incidents.
Resource & Budget Management:
Monitors the maintenance budget, tracking expenses for labor, materials, and external services.
Maintains an organized and accurate inventory of supplies, tools, and spare parts.
Liaises with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or projects, ensuring all work meets quality standards.
Problem-Solving:
Troubleshoots complex issues that technicians cannot resolve and provides hands-on support as needed.
Analyzes recurring problems to identify root causes and implements lasting solutions.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, the CFO, or the Head of School.
Qualifications
Extensive hands-on experience in various building trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry)
A high school diploma or GED is required
Vocational or technical school certification in a related field is a plus
Professional certifications (e.g., CMRP, HVAC certification) are highly desirable
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints
Solid understanding of health and safety regulations
Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting and team coordination
Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members, with a continuous focus on healthy relationship building
Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency skills and enthusiasm for issues of diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Able to move around the office and other school environments
Must have a current and valid driver's license
Regularly use close and distance vision
Frequently lift equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds or more
Crawl, climb ladders, twist, turn, and reach in completing a variety of job duties
Work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods
Work in a wide variety of environments found throughout the school
Able to operate vehicles and machines
