Job Knowledge and Expectations

  • Assist the Head of Maintenance as needed for repairs, tasks and projects.  
  • Works independently on repairs and maintenance as delegated by Head of Maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of trades to understand repair problems and make minor repairs on outlets, lamps and plumbing fixtures.
  • General knowledge of power tools.
  • Wood floor maintenance and installation of floor tiles.
  • Window glass replacement.
  • Lock repair and replacement.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assists Head of Maintenance on projects when needed.
  • Works independently on projects as delegated by Head of Maintenance, with occasional supervision/guidance. 
  • Uses power tools (drills, electric saws, grinders etc), climbs ladders and utilizes proper safety equipment and protocols when needed.
  • Maintains a clean work area during repairs/projects, is mindful of impact to Members and employees in regards to noise, smell (fumes, etc), and the space being utilized.  
  • Cleans up work area at end of every job.
  • Is willing to arrive early and/or stay later as needed for specific projects/repairs that are time-sensitive or emergencies. 
  • Assists Head of Maintenance in keeping inventory of tools and other assets, keeps work shop organized and clean.
  • Enrolls in and completes continuing education and instructional courses as requested by Head of Maintenance.
  • Maintains and makes general repairs to the plumbing fixtures, furniture, woodwork, electrical systems, appliances, elevators, ventilation systems and building structures of the club.
  • Maintains the air conditioning, refrigerators, ice makers (If applicable).
  • Installs tile, drywall; makes grouting repairs, patches walls and paves brick.
  • Repairs small motors.
  • Attends departmental staff meetings.
  • Completes other appropriate assignments made by the Maintenance Engineer/Waterfront Director.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
  • Push, pull or lift 50 pounds.
