Maintenance Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed safely, orderly, and within company policies and procedures.


• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance according to established schedules and equipment requirements.


• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on plant production and support equipment consisting of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems, and industrial electrical systems.


• Respond to equipment breakdowns and production support requests in a timely manner to minimize downtime.


• Independently diagnose equipment failures, determine root causes when practical, and implement appropriate corrective actions.


• Troubleshoot electrical systems including motors, motor starters, relays, contactors, sensors, switches, VFDs, and control circuits.


• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical documentation.


• Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems including cylinders, valves, regulators, pumps, hoses, fittings, and associated components.


• Perform mechanical repairs involving bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, couplings, pumps, motors, conveyors, and other industrial equipment.


• Perform basic fabrication, drilling, cutting, grinding, welding, and equipment modifications as required.


• Assist with the installation, relocation, setup, and commissioning of manufacturing and facility equipment.


• Perform monthly inspections of emergency lighting, facility fire extinguishers, and in-house fire alarm systems. Maintain accurate records of all inspections.


• Perform weekly inspections of hazardous waste satellite and main waste storage areas in accordance with applicable E.P.A. and D.N.R. requirements. Maintain accurate records of all inspections.


• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on plant building equipment and systems including boilers, HVAC equipment, compressed air systems, plumbing, lighting, and other facility equipment.


• Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend repairs or improvements to increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.


• Perform grounds maintenance activities including disposing of refuse and snow removal when required.


• Perform general cleaning and upkeep of buildings, including buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and washing windows as needed.


• Assist other departments as requested, including moving furniture, equipment, and materials and unloading and storing supplies.


• Requisition and order tools, equipment, repair parts, and maintenance supplies as required.


• Maintain appropriate spare parts and supplies necessary to support equipment and facility maintenance.


• Inspect completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.


• Perform general building structure repair or remodeling, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and related activities.


• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, preventive maintenance documentation, inspection records, and equipment repair history.


• Support outside contractors and vendors performing maintenance, installation, inspection, or repair work as required.


• Assist and provide technical guidance to less experienced maintenance personnel when needed.


• Keep maintenance areas, tools, equipment, and parts clean, organized, and orderly at all times.


• Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and other material-handling equipment as authorized and load and unload trucks as needed.


• Complete labeling of products requiring S.D.S. labels while maintaining accurate records of chemicals received and labeled.


• Assist with shipments of hazardous waste and scrap metal turnings when required.


• Participate in continuous improvement, equipment reliability, safety, and cost-reduction activities.


• Follow all company safety requirements including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, machine guarding, PPE requirements, and applicable environmental and EH&S procedures.


• Perform other maintenance and facility-related duties as assigned.


• Ability to work Overtime on a regular basis.

• 2 years of technical college education and 2–5 years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, or equivalent experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


• CFC certification for refrigerant recovery required when performing applicable HVAC repairs. DOT certification/training as required by assigned responsibilities.


• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.


• Ability to independently troubleshoot equipment problems and determine appropriate corrective actions with limited supervision.


• Experience using electrical test equipment, including digital multimeters.


• Experience reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.


• Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, VFDs, industrial automation, welding/fabrication, HVAC systems, and computerized maintenance systems is preferred.
