Manager - Finance, Treasury Advisory

The Global Treasury Controllership (GTC) team is part of the American Express Global Controllership Organization. GTC plays a significant role across the Middle and Back Office Treasury functions and financial reporting processes for the Company’s cash, debt, securities and financing transactions, investments, and derivatives. The team supports the Company’s Capital, Liquidity, and Exposure Management needs while partnering closely with the Treasury organization and other key stakeholders.

This Manager role sits within the Treasury Advisory team of GTC and is responsible for leading and supporting accounting, valuation, and advisory activities across the Company’s Treasury portfolio. The role requires hands-on valuation experience across financial instruments, including interest rate swaps, foreign exchange derivatives, and non-derivative instruments such as debt and investments. The individual will provide subject matter expertise on complex Treasury transactions, accounting and fair value matters, while ensuring consistent financial reporting and a strong control environment.

• Lead and perform valuation and fair value analysis across Treasury financial instruments, with a particular focus on interest rate swaps, foreign exchange derivatives, debt, investments, and other non-derivative instruments
• Apply knowledge of valuation methodologies, market data, curves, pricing inputs, and fair value measurement principles to assess and challenge valuations and investigate valuation movements or exceptions
• Review and analyze derivative and non-derivative valuations, including understanding key valuation drivers and assessing the reasonableness and accuracy of pricing results
• Lead accounting and controllership support for Treasury initiatives and transactions, including debt, investments, derivatives, hedging activities, and other financing transactions
• Provide accounting advisory and technical guidance on new products, transactions, and business initiatives, partnering with Treasury and other stakeholders to evaluate accounting, valuation, and reporting implications
• Ensure compliance with hedge accounting requirements under ASC 815, including hedge designation and documentation, effectiveness assessments, and measurement and reporting of hedge results
• Lead and support automation, process enhancement, and transformation initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve valuation processes, efficiency, scalability, data quality, and control effectiveness
• Establish and enhance end-to-end processes, controls, governance, and management reporting, including dashboards and key performance and risk metrics
• Develop and maintain accounting positions, valuation methodologies and documentation, procedures, and control evidence to support consistent execution and compliance with reporting requirements
• Coordinate with Internal Audit, external auditors, and other assurance functions, providing valuation analysis, documentation, and support for reviews

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5 - 8 years’ experience in Audit, Accounting, or Finance 
• Intermediate understanding of accounting, valuation and reporting related to derivatives, investments, debt and cash
• Valuations experience, derivative and non-derivative products
• Basic understanding of US GAAP required – knowledge of ASC 815, 820, or 830, required
• Very strong communication, prioritization, presentation, and organizational skills
• Possess abilities to challenge the status quo and apply a process-improvement mindset 
• Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Big 4 experience or CPA preferred
• Regulatory reporting experience, a plus
• Working knowledge of Oracle, Tableau, a plus
• Programing experience (python, Power BI, GenAI) is a plus
• Experience in Treasury/Treasury Controllership and/or knowledge of capital markets a plus
