Job Description - Managing Consultant, Project Manager, Engineer/Geologist/Scientist

Lead High-Impact Environmental Remediation Projects at ERM

At ERM, experienced consultants don’t just support projects—they lead them. This role is designed for an accomplished environmental professional ready to manage complex projects, guide teams, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients navigating environmental liabilities.

In this role, you’ll deliver technically rigorous site investigation and remediation programs under CERCLA, RCRA, and state regulatory frameworks, while strengthening client relationships and mentoring the next generation of consultants.

Why This Role Matters

Environmental liabilities carry regulatory, financial, and reputational risk. As a Managing Consultant at ERM, you will play a critical role in helping clients responsibly assess, manage, and resolve these challenges. Your leadership will directly influence project outcomes—from risk assessment and remedy selection through regulatory strategy and site closure—across a range of industrial and commercial settings throughout New England and select U.S. and international locations.

What Your Impact Is

  • Serve as a key technical and project management interface between ERM, clients, regulators, and subcontractors
  • Apply and advance innovative, sustainable site investigation and remediation technologies
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to ERM’s technical excellence and collaborative culture
  • Support business growth through proposal development, client engagement, and repeat work

What You’ll Bring

You are a technically strong consultant with proven project management experience and the confidence to lead multidisciplinary teams. You balance field knowledge with strategic thinking, communicate effectively with clients and regulators, and take ownership of project delivery, safety, and quality.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or a closely related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience (5–8 years preferred) with progressive responsibility on environmental site investigation and remediation projects
  • Demonstrated experience working under CERCLA, RCRA, and state regulatory programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce high‑quality technical reports (writing sample may be requested)
  • Environmental field experience including soil, groundwater, and vapor investigations
  • 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and risk management
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • Professional licensure (PE or PG) or ability to obtain licensure in the near future
  • Experience with vapor intrusion assessment and mitigation, LNAPL/DNAPL investigations, and high‑resolution site characterization tools
  • Familiarity with EQuIS or other environmental data management platforms

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute site investigation and remediation projects involving soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor intrusion, including projects with moderate to complex technical and regulatory challenges
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee field programs including sampling, drilling, well installation, remediation system implementation, and O&M
  • Develop and review work plans, technical reports, conceptual site models, scopes of work, schedules, cost estimates, and health & safety plans
  • Interpret environmental data, conduct QA/QC evaluations, identify data gaps, and guide technical decision‑making
  • Evaluate remedial alternatives and support clients in developing and negotiating cost‑effective closure strategies with regulatory agencies
  • Delegate work effectively, mentor junior staff, and engage ERM subject‑matter experts to deliver maximum client value
  • Prepare proposals and actively participate in business development and client relationship management
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with ERM colleagues, clients, regulators, and subcontractors
