Role and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders to determine machining specifications and setup requirements.
- Set up and operate manual machines, including:
- - Drill Press
- - Manual Lathe
- - Band Saw
- - Rigid Threading Machine
- - Pencil Grinders
- Use measuring and layout tools such as tape measures and calipers to ensure work meets specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Mark materials for machining using layout devices such as tape measures, calipers, and marking equipment.
- Cut, thread, and shape parts with precision, utilizing assigned machines to produce required components.
- Monitor machine operations, making adjustments to ensure quality and tolerance requirements are consistently met.
- Regularly inspect finished pieces using precision measuring tools to verify accuracy and conformance to blueprints.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on machines, such as cleaning, lubricating, and changing machining parts.
- Follow established safety procedures and guidelines, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
- Collaborate with other associates, engineers, and supervisors to resolve manufacturing issues and optimize productivity.
- Accurately document work performed, material use, and inspection results as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
- Minimum [1] year experience operating manual machine shop equipment.
- Hands-on experience with the following:
- - Drill Press
- - Manual Lathe
- - Band Saw
- - Rigid Threading Machine
- - Tape Measure (for layouts and checks)
- - Calipers (for precision measurements)
- - Pencil Grinders (for finishing and deburring)
- Strong understanding of metalworking processes and machining characteristics of various materials.
- Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and drawings.
- Proficient in understanding and using precise measurement instruments.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality workmanship and safety.
- Physically able to handle machine operation demands, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and manual handling.
- Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed.
Working Conditions
- Industrial machine shop environment with typical exposure to noise, grease, metal shavings, and working machinery.
- Use of mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
