MCC Infusion RN, Supervisor

Description
The MCC Infusion RN Supervisor supports daily clinical operations across Phase I and II infusion services, including Stem Cell Transplant Cellular Therapy, Hematologic Malignancies, and medical oncology infusion rooms. Oversees research infusion nurses and support staff to ensure safe, accurate, and protocol-driven delivery of clinical trial therapies. The supervisor ensures thorough documentation, regulatory compliance, and strong communication with CTOC research leaders, coordinators, physicians, and patients. The supervisor also manages daily team activities, resolves operational issues, and fosters a cohesive, patient-centered, healing environment.

Responsibilities

• Participates in and oversees daily patient care operations to ensure safe, high-quality infusion and clinical research services.
• Verifies patient needs are met, evaluates nursing performance, and conducts routine patient rounds and random chart audits.
• Ensures adherence to institutional, divisional, unit-based, and external regulatory requirements, including research protocol compliance.
• Reviews and adjusts staffing assignments based on census, acuity, and clinical trial requirements; coordinates staffing changes with the Central Staffing Office or leadership.
• Manages daily team activities, monitors productivity, and supports operational efficiency by identifying and resolving workflow issues.
• Participates in planning activities for assigned units and collaborates with other departments, research teams, and care coordination staff to support smooth patient flow.
• Provides coaching, feedback, and performance guidance to staff, promoting professional development, engagement, and participation in unit-based committees or initiatives.
• Organizes and conducts staff training, competency assessments, and educational programs to support clinical and research readiness.
• Investigates event reports, ensures appropriate documentation, and escalates high-risk situations to the Nurse Manager or Risk Management as required.
• Tracks attendance patterns, approves schedule adjustments, and supports self-scheduling to maintain consistent unit coverage.
• Assists with inventory control of supplies and specialty equipment, ensuring availability, safe use, and timely return of rented or borrowed items.
• Supports quality improvement initiatives by recommending operational changes, monitoring outcomes, and reinforcing best practices.
• Communicates effectively with patients, staff, physicians, research coordinators, and CTOC leadership to support safe and efficient care delivery.
• Facilitates collaboration among clinical and research teams to support trial execution, documentation accuracy, and adherence to protocol requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of infusion nursing practices, clinical protocols, and policies, with the ability to apply them in complex and varied situations.
• Strong supervisory skills, including monitoring performance, coaching staff, and taking corrective action to support safe and effective patient care.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary clinical and research teams.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate work within schedule constraints while managing multiple simultaneous responsibilities.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment in fast-paced clinical environments.
• Ability to support and contribute to process improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and team engagement.
• Knowledge of business and management principles, including resource allocation, staffing coordination, and leadership techniques.
• Effective planning and organizational skills, including identifying priorities and meeting deadlines for both clinical and administrative tasks.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, electronic health records, and managing clinical or research-related data.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in Nursing is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years of professional nursing experience is required.  
Experience as an Oncology and/or Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy RN 2 is required.  
Experience with infusion therapy in the outpatient environment is preferred.  

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Active CPR/BLS required.

Active TX Nursing licensure required.
