Under general supervision, performs maintenance and repair of City vehicles, equipment, machinery, and small engines to help ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
Specific Tasks, Duties, & Responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair City vehicles, equipment, machinery, and small engines.
Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, tune-ups, filter replacement, tire rotations, and other routine services.
Mount, dismount, repair, and balance tires used on City vehicles and equipment.
Troubleshoot mechanical problems and complete necessary repairs.
Inspect and test vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
Identify replacement parts and supplies needed for repairs and coordinate or place orders as necessary.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
Assist other technicians with maintenance and repair activities as needed.
Complete maintenance records and other required documentation.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Worker Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license.
Experience performing automotive, equipment, or small engine maintenance and repair preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of basic automotive and equipment maintenance and repair practices.
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs.
Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other shop equipment.
Ability to perform tire mounting, balancing, and related tire services.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other technicians.
Ability to follow established safety procedures.
Ability to safely operate and test City vehicles and equipment associated with assigned maintenance and repair duties.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical activity, including standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to work around vehicles, machinery, moving parts, automotive fluids, noise, and other shop-related hazards while using required protective equipment.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Hours/Scheduling
Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Overtime or schedule adjustments may be required based on operational needs.
