We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to maintain and repair machinery and vehicles. This role is responsible for ensuring the functionality and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems across a fleet that includes skid steers, soil slingers, dump trucks, pickup trucks, and various implements. An excellent Mechanic has manual dexterity and great attention to detail, works confidently with a range of machines and tools, and follows all safety precautions.
Duties & Functions
1. Diagnostics & Repair
Inspect machines, engines, transmissions, etc., and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.
Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g., repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles, etc.).
2. Preventative Maintenance
Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems.
Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
3. Documentation & Consultation
Keep logs of work performed and report on outstanding issues.
Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.
Qualifications & Standards
3+ years of diesel engine repair experience (Required).
3+ years of experience as a Mechanic (Required).
Excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical, and other systems and their components (Required).
Aptitude with hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers) (Required).
Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, blueprints, etc. (Required).
Strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines (Required).
Good communication and problem-solving skills (Required).
Good physical strength and stamina (Required).
High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
Certification from a vocational school, completion of an apprenticeship, or a valid trade certification (Preferred).
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Regularly lifts, carries, or moves tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs; occasionally more with assistance.
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces around machinery.
Exposure to noise, fumes, grease, and outdoor weather conditions typical of a shop and field environment.
Appropriate PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection) required at all times in the shop and field.
