General Definition and Scope of Job

The Environmental Services Maintenance Mechanic II position performs a variety of general, mechanical and preventive maintenance as well as inspections to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the equipment and facilities of the hospital. This position interacts directly with patients, staff and visitors on a daily basis.

What are the Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements?

• High school or equivalent.


• Five (5) years experience in plant operations in the maintenance field and a trade license.


• Demonstration of knowledge in the electrical field of HVAC, plumbing, boiler or contractors and associated
  equipment. 


• Valid Michigan drivers license with good driving record as determined by the Facility Manager.


• Ability to lift equipment and supplies that may exceed 80 pounds.


• Ability to read, write and document preventative and corrective work requests.


• Ability to handle the frequent use of power and hand tools.

What are the Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities?

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.


• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance to all physical plant equipment including structures and components of a variety of support equipment.


• Performs a variety of repairs and modifications related to the carpentry field.


• Assists in the moving of furniture and other office equipment as needed.


• Performs physical plant inspection rounds, records findings and advises Facilities Manager of corrective measures.


• Performs inspection of and makes repairs to the hospital fire alarm system.


• Performs repairs and modifications to hospital’s plumbing system and associated components.


• Performs repairs and modification to hospital’s HVAC equipment and associated components.


• Attends and participates in department in-services, educational programs and in-house MIOSHA training.


• Maintain department records, reports and files as required. 


• Report and assist as needed in fire and disaster/drill.


• Maintain clean and safe work area. Ensure proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.


• Assist in other areas of department as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Vice President and President.


• Assist the Facilities Manager in the development and implementation of systems within department.
